ParticipantThank you Denis! Let me confirm this issue with better explanation in English.
If bbPress forum slugs are in cyrillic, following is happening while replying on some topic:
Let’s say I have set “тема” instead of “topic” and my new topic’s title is “Тема на русском” (“Topic in russian”). This topic’s url looks like http://www.myawsomenewforum.ru/тема/тема-на-русском/ and shows up just fine. Now let’s post a reply.
After hitting the “Reply” button an answer hash is being added just for a moment, following by redirect to the topic URL but already without “тема” in it. It gets stuck with a redirect loop on http://www.myawsomenewforum.ru//тема-на-русском/
After manual reload http://www.myawsomenewforum.ru/тема/тема-на-русском/ shows the answer on its place.
Thank you.
2Denis: поменять на английский можно, но ведь темы генерируются на русском, да еще и обрезаются до 40 символов. Винегрет, а есть другой способ?

I’m not very familiar with the plugin’s code. Have you tried asking on the BuddyDev support forum?

Participantit’s an old topic related to BP 1.7. And @mercime already answered to the same question as yours.
Read about troubleshooting on the BP Codex.FYI wp codex gives also general advice on how to debug. You may also find many related topics on this forum.
Please open a new topic and give your install type, theme name and used plugin and explain your problem, when it arrived, what you already tried, etc

KeymasterHi @pauldewouters, welcome to the BuddyPress forums.
Sounds like this discussion should be moved to a Trac ticket, if someone would like to do that.
I’m not familiar enough with this part of the code to know if this is a good way to fix the problem, but I know a man who does: @imath – hello. 🙂

Participantis there a better way to do it?
If you expect some help, you have to tell what you already did on the way you mention.
As you built your own theme, you perhaps use this function outside of the bbPress scope ?
What does it give by using get_avatar() ?Do you read this bbPress codex page ?
Maybe better you ask on bbPress forum – remember although bbPress is a standalone plugin, integrated with buddyPress.

ParticipantAjaxim related:
On the software install instructions page, there is a important notice.Unlike Ajax IM 3.41 which was written in PHP, Ajax IM 4.0 uses Node.js. Node.js was chosen for scaling and extensibility but it also requires you to be on a VPS or dedicated server. Node.js and, thus, Ajax IM 4.0 will generally not work in shared hosting environments.

My subject knowledge HTML and CSS only!!
I suggest that you search some chat plugin on the WP repo, as it would be a less problem if you have no php knowledge.

ParticipantAs mentionned on the plugin support, a discussion about this problem startd also on this ofrum.
But be aware that you’re here on a BuddyPress support forum, so don’t expect an integration of the plugin from here. Only the plugin author could do this, and you have to ask him if he want to do this. (even if he isn’t very confident with BP).
So we can only give you here some raw hints and workarounds.
I’m closing this post and invite anybody interrested to continue the discussion on this topic.

danbp
ParticipantBuddyPress works together with the bbPress plugin when you use a forum.
If you want to add an extra button or a link or whatever, you simply check for the hook you want to use in one of the bbPress template files (bbpress/templates/default/bbpress/…) and attach a custom function to it.
As example of use, this snippet will add some text above the topic editor. You add it into your child theme functions.php or into bp-custom.php
function my_test_insert() { echo '<strong>My awesome <a href="#">link</a> to third party app</strong>'; } add_action( 'bbp_template_notices', 'my_test_insert' );If you don’t understand what’s going on on this topic, here’s a brief tutorial about hooks and filters.

ParticipantIt is essentially a link that I want to add to every forum. Many plugins have this but they only apply to posts and pages. The link will connect to a third party app. I have some custom code that I can embed into the php so that I can link wont take me off my site. However, I am unable to find the forum.php for buddy press in my installation.
I am looking for it in:

Participantclick click click ! But what should this button do ? Usually, a topic relates to a forum, and a BuddyPress forum is the bbPres plugin.
Give better details, please ! 😉

danbp
Participantbuddypress/bp-languages/buddypress.pot
Don’t use DW to read, modify or save a translation. Use a text editor (not word) like notepad or notepad++The NL translation is on Glotpress and the translation you need to put on your server is buddypress-nl_NL.mo
This is a compiled file used by gettext. You cannot read or modify it. If you want to do so, see poEdit.
https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/buddypress/dev/nl/defaultYou can find many other related topics if you search a little on the forum.

August 25, 2014 at 10:00 pm #188481Halo Diehard
ParticipantIf you see the first post, you will find that the issue begins when the members are imported from another forum type. Apparently my conversion issue was different than the original poster. After finally tracking down the issue, I learned that during *my* conversion, something happened where the nice name was entered without a dash, so:
Tom Thumb instead of Tom-Thumb
This was resulting in the 404 when visiting the profile page, although the member could log in and post.
I finally found a fix, and that was to go into the database, find the nicename and change it, replacing the space with a dash. Fortunately for me, there were only about 20 of them 😉
Now that there are no spaces, I don’t have the %20 issue anyway.

ParticipantHi @hardeepasrani,
xProfile field manipulation is a such common question on this forum. 🙄 Did you searched before asking ?
But codex first !
Here a topic where you can find how this works and can be done.

ParticipantI use a heavily modified version of twenty fourteen.
I was just reading on creating a child forum. I guess I’ll have to do some studying to figure out how to create one for my current theme. I may be back with additional questions after I do a little research on this.
I appreciate the response.

ModeratorIf I was doing this, I would write a custom function(s) to gather the activity ids.
And that function would most likely contain one or more custom db queries. If you are unable to write such queries, you may want to consider hiring a developer.

ParticipantI can edit the htaccess file, but couldn’t figure out where to put a htpasswd file due to the WordPress rewrite rules. So, I can edit the file but was unable to edit it in such a way that it worked.
I’m using Bluehost, their basic plan. It’s a shared host / shared IP. I can access FTP.
I have already searched the forum on this topic, but not found anything specifically addressing this. Someone did cryptically answer a similar question, describing a solution as, “difficult” without elaborating why/how.

ParticipantHi @hcthomas,
if you already can’t edit your htaccess, how would handle an htpasswd file ?
Please indicate hostname and hostplan.
Can use FTP on your site or are you obligated to manage exclusively your site throught your host’s cPanel ?Also ask on the bbPress forum, which is better indicated to answer forum related questions.

ParticipantGrumpffffffff ! Sorry have no idea, as the wp search is intended the search in the wp_post table.
This is OK:
http://example.com/?s=WORDDo you use a WP single or multisite install ?
Did you set pretty permalinks during the BP install ? Can be anything but not “default”.
Verify that you checked “Allow activity stream commenting on blog and forum posts” in the BP settings.
Verify also that ” Discourage search engines from indexing this site” is not checked.
