In reply to: How to restart the installation wizard
AtlantasRealtor
MemberThank you so much for your response. I read some of your insightful comments and thought about writing you a PM earlier today. I did not in order to respect your time.
I’m using WP 3.1.1,Genesis 1.8 and Genesis Connect 1.1 with an AgentPress v 1.0 Child Theme. It turns out I thought it through and followed your advice on my own, though I didn’t do all the manual code deletions.
Upon re-install, I still didn’t get the wizard to display or launch. Accordingly, I followed the outline provided by the link and completed the process manually.At this point, members are loading, activity stream is posting, and I have posted 10 forums in the group forum page.
Missing are any data or forms on the register page. Activate ask for an activation key that I assume comes from an email. I don’t know how to create the log in for the register page????
Should I update to AgentPress 2.0 as a possible solution.
Thanks for any further help you may be kind enough to offer.

ParticipantCouldn’t you use something like travel-junkie’s walled garden technique:
`
function sh_walled_garden()
{
global $bp;
if( bp_is_register_page() || bp_is_activation_page() || bp_is_page( BP_FORUMS_SLUG ) || bp_is_page( BP_GROUPS_SLUG ) )
return;if( ! bp_is_blog_page() && ! is_user_logged_in() )
bp_core_redirect( bp_get_signup_page() );
}
add_action( ‘bp_init’, ‘sh_walled_garden’ );
`
This goes in bp-custom.php and hides members and activity from those not logged in but enables forums and groups for everyone. It can also be customised…..January 30, 2012 at 12:24 am #128817@mercime
ParticipantClosing this, you posted the same in the other thread which I’ve renamed to reflect your issue. https://buddypress.org/community/groups/installing-buddypress/forum/topic/nothing-on-pages/

ParticipantPagelines has video about this http://www.pagelines.com/docs/buddypress or get a free forum account there at http://www.pagelines.com/launchpad/signup.php?price_group=-128&product_id=128&hide_paysys=free or do a search in theme’s forums
There’s also a year-old solution which you might want to check out https://wordpress.org/support/topic/problem-with-buddypress#post-1796598

@mercime
ParticipantThe link above has everything to do with the problem in many cases because it shows that you should enable forums in your groups first so that you can post a topic in the Group Forums.

Participant>> However the index.php file seemed to be a buddypress file
It is the BP Blogs Directory template file. How did it get at the root of your 13th floor theme? I suggest that you get another copy of your 13thfloor theme, and double-check the index.php file which I’m pretty sure won’t be the BP file and re-upload to your theme file in server.This leads to — could you just make sure first that you have 6 BP template folders – activity, blogs, forums, groups, members, register – transferred into your 13thflor theme folder in server? Check the /blogs/ folder and make sure there’s at least an index.php file there. Have to make sure everything’s in order before we proceed.

ParticipantThat link does not cover the issue as described above. In fact it has nothing to do with the problem. Maybe you posted the wrong link. If so, can you please update us on how to resolve this popular issue?

ParticipantSame issues here… My bbconfig is correct and I’m choosing the drop menu but get the same error as described above. Anybody have a solid answer?
January 29, 2012 at 9:38 am #128786ClubUgly
ParticipantI get the same… I’ve checked my bb-config and followed the directions in the link. I have deleted the database and deleted the config file to start from scratch but get the same results.
January 29, 2012 at 7:22 am #128783@mercime
ParticipantFind bb-config.php file in your server, usually where you will find wp-config.php file
Open it up and double-check database information is correct. Basically, should be the same database info in your wp-config.php file.
If database info is correct, did you enable your Group’s Forum? https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/4/#forums-faqs

Secrets of Safety
MemberMingle hasn’t been updated and seems to be having some problems with conflicts with other plugins it didn’t used to conflict with. Yes, It is nice but if they aren’t updating it, really… what options do you have?
I tried the Symposium plugins, but they are in constant “upgrade” mode and it is very hard to follow. And I might add that testing loading speed, Symposium slows down a site a lot.
If Mingle were updated, it would be great.. I love the way they have everything set up, but there is no album. They have much better privacy options.
I really like the mingle forums and since it is mentioned that I might be able to use it then I think I will try. Although bbpress can be easily set up in multiple different ways. If it’s allowed, here is a tutorial that is really easy to follow for installing the bbpress plugin and setting up multiple forums..
I found it very easy to follow..http://labsecrets.com/2012/01/23/buddypress-and-bbpress-forums-made-easy/

Member@notpoppy – I think this section of the forums is for feedback and suggestions.
You might want to go to another section to admonish people against making suggestions. What’s that all about? Buddypress is a good plugin, agreed and everyone here is expressing that.
However, when a section is set up for “feedback” that’s what they will get.

MemberI’m having issues with settin up a forum either.
Set up WordPress, installed Buddypress and first tried to get sitewide forums running. Kept getting the complaint that the forums component wasn’t set up yet, although I was quite sure it was.
Then de-installed bbpress and set up a groups forum.
I have a forum directory now, but when I want to create a new topic it says: please pick the group forum where you would like to post this topic. Although I just did in the little dropdown menu below.I really, really would like to hav a step by step tutorial on how to set up a forum in buddypress, with a private community. One that fits the screens I see, because most blogs and tutorials about this look older and have losts of different screens and features.

ParticipantBuddypress doesn’t make it easy to allow “profile types” out of the box, you will either need to hire a developer or use a plugin, this one might get you half way their – https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-user-account-type-lite/
@djpaul also suggested to someone else with a similar-ish question, of using xprofile fields and a some custom coding. https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/interactive-profile-fields-during-registration/ (Theirs some great discussion on that thread regarding similar things that you might be interested in reading)

KeymasterOr, your bbconfig.php file doesn’t have the right info in it.
January 27, 2012 at 5:31 am #128692@mercime
ParticipantJust to be clear, are you referring to the post excerpts in the Activity Stream or are you referring to the site Activity feed as in http://yoursite.com/activity/feed which is quite different. Have you checked out the Gravity Forms forums or contacted the Gravity plugin devs about this?

KeymasterNo reason to bump anything here at all. The forums don’t move fast enough and all of the core devs and moderators do a great job at keeping their eyes on things.
