BuddyPress is not a forum plugin.
    BuddyPress uses bbPress for forums.
You may want to ask your question on the bbPress forums.

I’m trying to find a forum plugin that’ll allow me to create something like the mockup in the link below. Basically split screen (right & left forum columns) seems to be the more troublesome feature to figure out. Any advice or ideas?

In the forum and profile page, how do I replace the user name and instead display the user ID?

Hello, we’re having issues with BuddyPress private messaging on our site https://www.lightstalking.com/

We’re using Version 4.1.0 of BuddyPress running on WP 4.9.8

This issues happens only with an admin account – it’s impossible to send new private messages from an admin account to other users of forum.

When we try to do that, we get an error message (I attached a screenshot of it) – https://www.screencast.com/t/XoU5ZLRaAtf

Let us know if there’s anything to do about this.

    Best regards,
    LightStalking team

I want to add frames to the avatars of the users depending on certain conditions, first of all where is the code snippet or loop that defines the div that contains the avatar image?, for example in the forum (bbpress)I can modify the avatar background in the loop-single-reaply.php, is there something similar for the users profile?

There have been recent reports on these forums of conflicts with Youzer.

Yes, a custom component is the proper approach.
The best approach is to look at the BP codebase to see how components are created and implemented.
You will need good skills as a WP developer, at least.
This task is large and custom, therefore it is beyond the scope of these forums.

I don’t think so, but you could also ask on the bbpress support forum.

There are a few ways to handle that situation, but it would require custom code specific to your installation. And that is beyond the scope of these forums.

Your best best is to contact the creators of those 2 profile plugins and ask how to handle your scenario. They are very skilled and will most likely at least have some suggestions.

It looks like your request is for forums, BuddyPress uses bbPress forums so you should place your request there – https://bbpress.org/forums/

Thank You @shanebp for your response. I will look at the specific file mentioned. My requirement is not just limited to the forum actions. I would like to know the function that is called to save an activity event into the activity stream. I thought it was bp_activity_add() but looks like all actions do not use this.

afaik, you’re looking in the wrong place – easy to do.

    Look in the bbPress plugin:
    ...wp-content\plugins\bbpress\includes\extend\buddypress\activity.php

And they have their own forums.

    Hi,

Whenever a user performs certain default actions, such as reply in a group forum, there is an entry in their activity stream showing that they had replied to so and so forum at so and so time. So what am looking for is this- when a user performs the action before the event is recorded in the activity stream, I would like to access the $activity object. Can someone please tell me where the save functionality is implemented for a new addition to the activity stream. For example, I know that in bp-activity-functions.php file in method bp_activity_add() function it has a line $save = $activity->save(); But I noticed that the code does not flow to this function when saving default actions. I also did not find any hook I can use to access $activity object before it is saved. Please help. Thank You

    Thanks for the report.
Please see the support forum for that plugin and make any further comments there.

Are you talking about Activity Stream comments?
    Or forum comments?
    Or post / page comments?

    Hi,

I’m looking for a way to disable the global activity stream but keep the normal ones in the profiles for each user enabled.

So just to be clear i mean with disable, zero possible (server) queries and zero data fetching.

The BP forum search wasn’t really helpful since the questions were mostly about how to hide the tab links to the global activity stream and they were also very dated.

So is there such a way to get it maybe done via functions.php? Since i really don’t want to tinker around in the BP source files.

    Thanks a bunch in advance

BuddyPress is easily extended. If you look through the code you will see a lot of action and filter hooks. Also the template hierarchy will let you override core templates. It is a very developer friendly and support here in the forum is the best 😀

BuddyPress uses bbpress.org for all forums.
Please use their support, bbpress.org/forums, for questions specific to forums.

I’m moving my writing community site from Spruz to WordPress/Buddypress site. On the current site we have used the forum function to set up various writing activities under a number of categories where members can post work, goals, and various other things using a visual editor… I want to replicate this on the new site. Any advice on the best and easiest way forward? Is there a plug-in I can use?

the new site is expatwritersabroad.com but I haven’t completed the set up yet and it’s still under construction.
    Thanks in anticipation

It’s not really the place to try to sell your plugin on our support forums, please; it’s rude.

I assume you meant bbPress 2.5.14
Are you on BuddyPress 3.2.0 ?

I’m able to see bbpress and buddypress on the admin site…

By ‘see’ you mean in the Network Admin dashboard, you can see both plugins on the plugins page and they both say ‘Network Deactivate’ under the plugin name?

On the Network Admin Dashboard, I see tabs for ‘Activity’ and ‘Groups’, both are BP components.
Under ‘Settings’, I see BuddyPress, but not ‘Forums’.

If I add a Group, it does so only on the primary site on the network – but all the Settings are only on the Network Admin screen.

I do not see any dashboard links re BuddyPress on any site within the network.

For ‘Forums’ ( bbPress ), I see a tab and a Settings link for all sites in the network.

This may be correct, although confusing.
I just want to confirm that we are seeing the same things.

Screw it. I tried to post the code in various ways, but I don’t have time to spend trying to post A SIMPLE COMMENT FFS.

Go to this link and use the code specified in the file.

I hope it’s still available years later when someone stumbles across this comment thread.

BuddyPress forums need some sort of fix for this crap. What an incredible waste of time and energy, just to post a helpful comment that contained code. I’m not a freaking spammer. I mean, if your forum software is needing to be THAT sensitive to fight spam, make us do captchas or some crap to verify we’re ‘human.’

Ya know, I get why spam filters exist, but when they make a site UNUSABLE FOR ACTUAL USERS then your technology is worthless.

Anyhow…lol, end of rant. Here is the link:

I hope this solution helps others as much as it’s helped me. <3

It sounds like you are using a plugin or theme feature that allows users to create posts ( articles ).
You would probably need to add something like a tinyMice editor to the textarea for the article.
And enable images in that editor.

However – your question is well beyond the scope of these forums, and is best addressed to the creators of the ‘article’ code. If they cannot help you, you’ll need to hire a developer.
