KeymasterBBPress plugins won’t work with the method of integration that BuddyPress uses. You will have to port the plugin to work with WPMU and BudyPress or find someone to do it for you.

ParticipantI´ve got exactly the same problem. I´ve got a fresh install of WPMU 2.8.4a and BuddyPress 1.1.1, no separate bbPress as I thought BuddyPress would perform that install for me.
This is what I get:
====
bbPress forum integration in BuddyPress has been set up correctly. If you are having problems you can re-install
NOTE: The forums directory will only work if your bbPress tables are in the same database as your WordPress tables. If you are not using an existing bbPress install you can ignore this message.
====
When I try to post a new topic in any of the forums I get:
“There was an error when creating the topic”
So I guess bbPress isn´t installed after all?

ParticipantHi Anointed, I was just working around my own bp install. I wanted to display the BP themes within subdomain community. I had community an id of 4. In the buddpress plugin (not the wp-config.php) look for bp-core.php, and change (not add) the “1” in the
define( 'BP_ROOT_BLOG', 1 );to 4. That worked for me so far, I guess. I’m not actually sure if I’m doing exactly the right thing. This thing is not included in the codex, I hope they do document this if this the only tweak you have to make. Likewise, in the forums, it appears there was no definite answer. Hope I helped.

ParticipantTry these pointers
– Try and use the intended function in the same manner as the stock theme. To make sure everything works.
– Understand that forums and topics must exist to be filtered, much like any of the status filters for widgets such as the latest user/group activities.
– Try using ‘groups_get_by_most_forum_topics()’ function directly in your custom function.
– Start debugging, turn debugging flags on for your environment, start to modify the source and see whats going on.

ParticipantDid you choose “Set up a new bbPress installation”” or “Use an existing bbPress installation”?
If you do not need any of the old bbPress content, then I would suggest starting the bbPress integration from scratch. This mean deleting the old and newly-created bbPress tables in the DB, then deleting the bbPress directory from BuddyPress, and then reinstalling the bbPress files. This of course also assumes that the new bbP tables do not yet have any worthwhile data in them.
Next, go back into WPMU’s backend and navigate to “BuddyPress > Forums Setup” and then choose “Set up a new bbPress installation”.
Does that make a difference?

ParticipantI’m afraid if the developer of that plugin is not responding to your questions, then that may very well indicate that they have stopped supporting the plugin. You should post (if you have not already) on the WPMU forums and see if anyone has information.
Perhaps someone there may know of an alternative or will adopt the plugin and bring it up to code. Make sure you mention that you want to use this plugin in BuddyPress.

Participantthanks for the reply . Is there a way we could tune the buddypress themes for members? If buddypress cannot be used on member blogs how would members ever visit social links like blogs,members,forums etc., ?

ParticipantThanks John James Jacoby. I found Eric set up a project page (http://trac.ywamnetworks.com/projects/bp-events/) and a demo page (naminanu.com)
What i like in WPMUDEV’s solution is that events are related to a group. BP useres are used to this from how forums work, so why not go a step further and bind events to a group. Thats a good setup. An Event, a Group of people and a Forum to discuss.

KeymasterTechnically, yes. To take advantage of BuddyPress forums for 1.1.1 and how they work “out of the box” that’s what it needs. It shouldn’t take more than an hour or so to create groups and map their forum_id’s to your old forums in phpMyAdmin.
When you upgrade, be sure to choose the “existing forum” method so that BuddyPress knows to use your existing tables and doesn’t create new ones.

ParticipantI got a reply from WPMU DEV James related to my question if their plugin offers a global directory where all events are listed (like the forums directory in BP 1.1}
It may in future – currently though it adds activities to both the
personal and group activity streams.
If you do join, please request the feature in the forums and we’ll
canvas opinion on it an other additions.
Doeas anybody know if Erwin Gerrits is still working on BP Events Calender?

Did you find out anything?
I notice that there are several others on this forum asking questions about paid membership. This is what I want to do also. Another solution “may” be WishList plugin but that remains to be seen, have not found definitive confirmation of this works or not with WPMU.

Anonymous User 96400
InactiveHey Mfgmk,
I know this is a bit late to reply to your comment from two weeks ago, but I just only read it now.
You shouldn’t copy functions.php from the parent theme to the child theme. It’ll throw errors. There’s another way to get rid of that third sidebar. Create an empty functions.php file in your child theme folder (all the functions from the parents functions.php will still work). In it you put this piece of code:
function sv_remove_sidebar()
{
unregister_sidebar( 'sidebar-4' );
}
add_action( 'admin_init', 'sv_remove_sidebar' );In the above example 4 is the ID of the sidebar. If a sidebar doesn’t have a specific name to identify it with WP will give it automatically a name like sidebar-ID, which is the case with the default parent theme. Then you set the sidebar you just unregistered to display:none in your CSS file and you should be all set, plus you didn’t touch any parent theme files.

Participantfor bp_is_user_profile(), you can use this…
<?php
global $bp;
if($bp->current_component == BP_XPROFILE_SLUG) {
//Your code here
}
?>
