    Come on guys,

Anyone have the slightest idea what’s going on????

I have not seen anyone on the BuddyPress forums reporting that they are using this plugin. You are the first that I’ve seen.

From the error message, it looks like WPMU has an issue with some code in the plugin. It could be caused by another plugin you’ve installed being incompatible or simply a bug within the plugin itself.

Your best bet is to contact the plugin developer, tell them about the error, and ask whether it works with BP v1.1.1.

Well, I appreciate the sentiment but I do not consider myself the most important. That is why I’m sleeping now. ;)

To reconfirm what both Paul and John said above, Andy is the only official core BP developer. There are no other official core developers at this time. The rest of us play our various roles, trying to pitch in where we think we’ll have some positive impact.

From those who file bug tickets and offer patches, to those who create new plugins and themes, and to those who answer questions in the forums and IRC, it is truly the contributions of the overall community that make and will continue to make BuddyPress a strong product.

    i had the same trouble.

    Old table were bb_prefixed

    the new table have wp_bb_prefix…

What you can do is to copy the old content into the new tables to have things to work. And to play a little with the “one click” forum intergration. This is even false: it needs 2 clicks. :-)

    @Arghagain

buddypress 1.1 DB has not the same number of tables as 1.03… hope you made a good dump before you upgrading. Downgrading was not a good idea !

First thing to try when a blank SWA is to reload the WHOLE activity directory content… and to verify that you’re using the good template system for bp 1.1.1 !

If you donwgrade, take care on the db version number in wp1_options table and control also the content of wp_user_meta table !

Forum tables, if i read correctly your post – but i don’t know of a bb1.1.1 so i suppose you speak about buddypress(bp) – have now wp_bb_ prefix…

Old bb forum tables have bb_ prefix… and there activity were not in BP SWA.

When upgrading bp from previous version, old forum tables are not overidden and depending of what you choose during upgrade process for foum – integrated or separated – the new forum tables are created but stays empty – sorry, with only one test content.

The new (BP 1.1) site wide activity use only one activity table.

    wp_bp_activity_user_activity_cached

The old system (< 1.1) use 3 tables:

    wp_bp_activity_user_activity_cached

    wp_bp_activity_user_activity

    wp_bp_friends_activity_cached

Also take in mind that sometimes upgrading tooks a while to appear. I don’t know why, but it’s so….

Hah! I finally found what was wrong!

It’s not possible to use a secondary blog as the “material/theme” for Buddypress. At least not for the forums. It has to be the primary blog (that has incorporated BP).

Changing which blog that is this on bb-config.php doesn’t help.

    $bb->wordpress_mu_primary_blog_id = 2;

Well, now I at least know why I had my problems.

I don’t have answers for all your questions, but you can’t access bb-admin for “the built-in forums by buddypress.”

Hmm so how would have say a global forum like this (stand-alone) and then also the forums directory with the latest posts from your group forums. Also how do you access bb-admin for the built-in forums by buddypress?

Any ideas, why that could be? It is kind of a bad-bug for me, because we cannot delete and re-create all of the old groups…

    Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the extra education Jeff! I had no idea akismet would bozo – I’ll need to check my buddypress and bbpress sites for that to see if anyone has been perhaps – I had no idea.

Please note that I was not singling anyone out, I was just frustrated by some short answers on posts that I was looking for the same answer as some other noob.

I have been scouring the forums trying to figure everything mu related out for years, since pre-version1.3 – and still get confused. I also think that technically any BP question is an MU question since you need the MU to run BP – LOL

Thanks for listening, and perhaps with so much crossover between the two, a little sidebar search that shows MU forums posts when we search the BP forums would enlighten some of us as to answers found elsewhere.

I am anxious to see if the new bp 1.1.1 has features built in to adapt the signup email that is sent to new users, and redirects them to a more social page rather then the WP dashboard, or maybe that is still an MU setting and I need to fiddle over on that side of this. I wonder if the redirect stuff that was written here a while back is no longer needed to get that function. I am afraid to upgrade my BP site, as I can’t find instructions for moving the origial BP that was setup in “mu-plugins”.

I totally understand the mod thing, I mod a couple other sites myself, and I try to answer questions I find in WP and MU forums if I know the answer, and post details as much as possible. Thanks for your help, and everyone else that contributes to this project! I couldn’t do 1% of what everyone it doing here!

What you are reporting is simply WPMU’s default behavior for category URLs. You can change that if you want by logging into MU’s back end as Site Admin and going to “Settings > Permalinks > Optional ” and changing the category base.

For more detailed discussion, you’ll have the best results by searching the WPMU forums.

Need to see https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/when-asking-for-support from both of you to confirm that you both have the same issue. You might be having the same problem but with different causes.

I’d argue the only core developer is Andy Peatling, and looking at his Twitter feed, he’s been out of (his) country for the last couple of weeks.

There’s a number of tickets with patches from others, but only Andy can merge them into the core. Likewise, the forum has been very busy and there’s not been massive amounts of “answer” posts. I guess we’re just in a bit of a quiet period.

Oh, it seems it was only me that was the bug. :)

I didn’t have the theme-files in the proper place. I still can’t find root/forums but I guess I’ve done something wrong there also.

With Andy’s change in WP 2.9, regarding where the themes should be, I guess this will be an error of the past.

    @knaight

First of all, you are posting in a thread that is marked as resolved and is more than five months old. Please read this thread for more details why this can be an issue.

Secondly, we have no information on your current setup. One could assume that you are still using RC-2 since this thread pertains to that version.

Finally, see if this post in the linked-to thread answers your question:

I’m closing this thread as any further discussion should take place in a new thread.

This site uses a standalone bbPress install, integrated into BuddyPress the same way as had to be done in version 1.0 of BuddyPress.

If BP classes them as part of groups, what group is this a part of then? https://buddypress.org/forums/ seems pretty stand-alone to me :/

Since these threads were created about 4 hours apart from each, searching the forum for an existing topic would have been nice :) Let’s try to keep discussion on this on one thread (this one?)

As far as being “bozoed” by someone, that someone would be the Akismet algorithm. No person does the bozoing. I have been bozoed twice myself on these forums in the past by Akismet.

If you think you may have been bozoed, just send a friendly message to a moderator. They will look into it.

“that’s a wpmu question” – are not very helpful either. In the times it takes to write some crap like that, you could post a link to the wpmu thread about the issue.

I sometimes do just that. But, there are exceptions.

If it is a question that has been asked too many times here and a little searching would show that to be the case, I will kindly remind them to search first and then I redirect them to the proper place. If it is a question that will require more time to do the research for them than it does to write the response, I will also kindly redirect them to the proper place.

And you are correct. None of the moderators get paid. We all volunteer our time and independently decide how best to serve the overall community. Part of the duties of all moderators is to educate new users on how best to get results and on proper forum procedure and etiquette. Pointing people to the proper place to ask questions falls under education.

I’d like to add that some of the moderation answers like:

“that’s a wpmu question” – are not very helpful either. In the times it takes to write some crap like that, you could post a link to the wpmu thread about the issue.

I know it’s cool to come off like Andrea does in the wpmu forums with little snips like “search the forums first” – but seriously, if you are gonna take the time to write something snide, at least post a link to help the noobs. You never know when one of the noobs may one day be a great contributor to the various projects.

Acting like one of the WP overworked originals does not make one a good moderator. I know moderating sucks, it’s a thankless job with no pay, but no-one is forcing anyone to moderate right?

( wonders if I’ll be “bozoed” by someone now )
