Topic: Private Message Not working
I have a new install, using BP’s latest version, WP3.0 (non-multi-site use), root install and I get the 403 you don’t have permission to access this document page and the url in the browser shows as http://www.mydomainname.com/members/rolandogomez/messages/compose// when I hit the send message button. Notice the double “//” at the end of the URL. Now I’m no coder, but I’ve ran WP sites for quite sometime. I have reloaded all the files again, still nothing. I even tried switching to the BP’s default theme, same problem as in my custom Genesis theme. So I don’t think this is a theme issue. Any help is appreciated. I need to get the PM system working. Thanks, rg.
Hi, when a member clicks on the site admin member, and then clicks on the button to send a “Private Message”
the form does not automatically put the admins user name in the field. When the member tries to add my name, it does not work.
I see that BP is directing the form to this URL… http://halton.ecobeez.biz/members/test/messages/compose/?r=Robert
But the reason it’s not working is because it should be directing to this… http://halton.ecobeez.biz/members/test/messages/compose/?r=admin
Does anyone know how I can fix this?
Thanks
Hey All,
Whenever I create a new group, I enter the details, set the group type ie: public, private or hidden all goes well, then it goes to the avatar section and nothing appears on the screen.
In the address bar it shows I’m in the right section: groups/create/step/group-avatar/ but the breadcrumb active link is set back to 1. Details and the page is blank with only buttons for Previous Step and Next Step.
If I hit next step it creates an empty group AND the actual group with a default avatar and displays the following error message:
Are you sure you want to do this?
Please try again.
I searched around for this but couldn’t find anything.
Thanks
V
Version 0.0.2 – 2010 04 17
Download: http://bpanswers.com/buddypress-forums-move-topic.zip
Provides a drop-down on the Forum Topic page (upper right-hand corner) that allows Group Admins and Mods to move entire topic threads to other public, private, or hidden forums. Topic author gets email alert that helpfully provides link to the relocated topic.
“Learns” your forum structure and automatically repopulates the drop-down menu when new forums are added. Saves forum structure as “my-topics.php” in the plugin’s directory. If you delete a forum, there is a drop-down option to manually update the forum list. Not sure if there is a hook related to deleting forums, but if you let me know, I’ll add it.
Yes, it updates the topic/post counts in the database, too. Seems not to mess with RSS. Works for me with Private and Hidden forums.
NOTE: Currently OK for mods/admins to move topic to a forum where they are NOT a mod/admin; may provide “permissions restriction” feature if there is demand. Other future considerations include ‘split topic’ and ‘merge topic’ functions.
Wish List/Future Plans
- Topic Merge
- Topic Split
- Automatically update the drop-down menu when forums are deleted (tell me the hook and I’ll add it)
- Finer permissions as an option (i.e. forum moderator cannot move topic to a forum where he/she is not a mod)
- Recode URLs to support https:// installations
- Update activity stream item (though for some reason, the old URL still works, so activity stream is not technically “broken”…)
- Create new activity stream item that so-and-so moved the post (but I want to wait until BuddyPress has better control over what gets displayed in activity streams
Previous discussion of the code is here.
Please post any feedback or bugs in this thread, send me a private message through this forum, or email me. Also, not to be commercially crass, but this plugin took a lot of sweat and effort to get right, and more is to come. If you find it useful or to support future development, please consider tipping your bartender. Thanks!
Topic: Reply via email
This is not trivial. Heck, Facebook just months ago got around to it.
-> Allow users to reply to the email drop copy messages they receive. This will probably have to be done on a “by type” basis eg private messages, forum replies, @mentions, friend requests, etc.
Unique ID’s will need to be generated and matched on a per message basis and tons of parsing magic is required.
I realize this is more convenience than necessity for the younger demographic btu for sites like ours with a wide spectrum of age demo, if I ha da $1 for every 70 year old that hit the reply button on their email and sent me (really Bob!) a nice message to the admin!
Topic: BP1.2+ Plugin Wishlists
I thought it might be useful to our many plugin developers if we had a thread where we could talk about our dream plugins, and if someone wanted to develop something, they’d know there was a demand already.
I’ll start: I find that the greatest gaps in functionality for the new site I’m putting together is in the integrated BBpress forums. Many BBpress plugins could presumably be ported to BP, but that’s beyond my limited skills at this point.
So, some plugins I’d love to see
- Forum Inline image attachments
- Forum quoting (with cite)
- Forum whispers (basically private messages inline in forum threads, like Vanilla, visible only to sender and sendee)
- Some buttons for basic formatting on textareas (like TinyMCE, but simplish)
I know Boone is looking at a couple of these, I think, and there are some other plugins like Events and Achievements that I’m waiting for with much excitement on 1.2.
That’s a wishlist start, for me, anyway. What BP plugins, extending forums or otherwise, are on your wishlist?
I was looking through the site and haven’t found anything matching what I want.
Basically for a members inbox I want to have an additional button like the “x” for delete but I want to have a button that is “Mark as abuse” then when a member clicks this it would flag it for admin to block the accused member and IP.
This buttom I would also like inside “groups, forums” so it would be similar to the “like this” plugin for buddypress but instead its a mark as abuse so that the admin can regulate and take control of the site to ensure members aren’t hammered with spammy or abusive private messages.
Another option I would like is to only let users who have posted 4 times to have access to private messaging.
And an option to insert Urls into post/comments/text fields around the buddypress content. I’m not a programmer at all so I can’t figure out how to do any of this to save my soul.
I’d like to hear what people think about using “Reply” as the default terminology for the buttons in the Activity stream on BP1.2+.
It strikes me that people, when hitting ‘Reply’ to a Forum post that appears in the Activity stream, are going to assume that they’re actually replying inline in the forum thread in question, but this is, of course, not the case. It’s just adding a comment to an activity ‘item’.
I wonder if it might make more sense to have the buttons in the Activity stream read “Comment” instead, reserving “Reply” for forums and private messages and stuff.
Another solution would be to keep the “Reply” terminology, but to have the button link to the post box in the forum thread in question, rather than opening up an AJAXy inline div for comment input.
What do people think?
(BTW if there’s an easier-to-figure-out way to customize this than using ‘translation’ .mo/.po files and stuff, I’d love to know!)
