    Was this ever solved? I am trying to accomplish the same thing – make some profile fields private. Thanks!

    Hi all

    First off a HUGE thumbs up to all involved in the BuddyPress project – it’s a phenomenal development & we’re loving it!

    I have just upgraded our single user installation (running on WP 2.9.2) to BP 1.2.2. We are using the BP-Default theme.

    The reason I rushed into the upgrade was to implement the new member email activation fix as mentioned in the change log (Fixed inconsistencies with new account activation between WordPress MU and standard WP. All new accounts must now be activated to confirm a valid email is being used.)

    However two test registrations, using different email addresses (both tested as valid) produced no email activation messages. Am I missing a setting somewhere that needs to be in place in order to achieve this feature on a single installation site?

    Secondly – is there a way to implement a redirect or a message of some sort to users who have registered but not yet activated their account? At the moment, trying to login with one of the new not activated accounts simple sends the user back to the home page. Something along the lines of a “Your account still needs to be activated, please follow the instructions in the email sent to your address”.

    And finally – if 1 and 2 above are solvable, would the addition of a “resend activation email” link somewhere be out of the question as a further enhancement to the system?

    Both these test accounts are passed to the WP user list and appear under the users settings in the admin dashboard as expected.

    Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

    P.S. System emails are still being sent without problems – received email notification of a private message from the site so don’t think that’s a problem.

    Test here: http://bptest.flweb.it

    Lot of details here: http://flweb.it/buddypress-album-plus/

    User can upload picture to their album, and they can add title, description, choose privacy option ( public, visible to members, visible to friends, private) and enable/disable comments for the pic. Users can edit and delete their pictures.

    Admin can set limit for picture upload total count, to enable/disable privacy options and limit for each of them, if description can be empty, pic per page in the default query.

    For each upload pic will be generated a thumb and a middle size pic, admin can set thumb size, middle size and if original file should be kept.

    Templating should be easy as the pics template class works in a way similar to the wp posts template.

    Tested only with WP 2.9 and BP 1.2, don’t know if it work with previous versions. This is an early release and should be used carefully.

    I created this plugin because i needed it for a work and bppicture-album plugin wasn’t enough flexible. As I started from scratch (well, from the bp1.2 skeleton component) this is not a mod of bppicture-album, is not compatible with it, so please don’t install this if you have bppicture-album and you cant migrate the db tables by yourselfs.

    I don’t know if you’ve found a treatment, for this, but I’d suggest a plugin named HashCash from Donncha:

    Hello friend I can not really send you the link, and visited it at any time, and wanted to make a surprise, with the change of thema

    I am sending you a private message to explain a second solution,

    but now on the explanation of step 3, I looked and I swear to you that I could not understand where change, he even left an example, but I’ve never seen an example in practice, the funny that I go to a Web extensive study to learn everything, but for now I need help

    Topic: BP1.2+ Plugin Wishlists

    in forum Ideas
    stwc

    I thought it might be useful to our many plugin developers if we had a thread where we could talk about our dream plugins, and if someone wanted to develop something, they’d know there was a demand already.

    I’ll start: I find that the greatest gaps in functionality for the new site I’m putting together is in the integrated BBpress forums. Many BBpress plugins could presumably be ported to BP, but that’s beyond my limited skills at this point.

    So, some plugins I’d love to see

    • Forum Inline image attachments
    • Forum quoting (with cite)
    • Forum whispers (basically private messages inline in forum threads, like Vanilla, visible only to sender and sendee)
    • Some buttons for basic formatting on textareas (like TinyMCE, but simplish)

      I know Boone is looking at a couple of these, I think, and there are some other plugins like Events and Achievements that I’m waiting for with much excitement on 1.2.

      That’s a wishlist start, for me, anyway. What BP plugins, extending forums or otherwise, are on your wishlist?

    up on the repo

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-restrict-group-creation/

    lemme know about any bugs/issues/features.

    This plugin will restrict group creation and settings to certain WP Capabilities. In addition, this plugin will auto-demote the group creator to group mod to ensure group settings may not be modified after creation. You may also define a group admin and mod that will be auto-assigned all new groups created.

    Auto-assigning an admin and/or mod to new groups

    In your wp-config.php file – set the following constants and check ‘Auto demote group creator to group mod‘ under the settings page.

    define( ‘BP_RESTRICTGROUP_AUTOADD_ADMIN_USER_ID’, the_database_user_id );

    and/or (admin inherits mod – no reason to define the same user_id twice)

    define( ‘BP_RESTRICTGROUP_AUTOADD_MOD_USER_ID’, the_database_user_id );

    I’ll change this step in the future to selecting users via the admin settings page.

    http://blog.etiviti.com/2010/03/buddypress-restrict-group-creation/

    Basically, I changed up the group creation steps (removed all the others, add in a closed one) – then demote the group creator to a mod so they can’t go back and change the settings. You map an overall group creation cap level. Also you can map different cap levels to enabling a forum and the group status levels (private/hidden). If you leave those blank – then nothing appears and force a public only group otherwise make the same as the overall.

    only problem with removing the link:

    <?php echo bp_get_root_domain() . '/' . BP_GROUPS_SLUG . '/create/' ?> someone could still access the url directly to start the process.

    I went ahead and created a plugin (waiting on repo request on wordpress.org) to disable the steps and show a ‘new groups creation is closed’ message. Also added in a midlevel-cap to allow another set of users the ability to create private/hidden + w/forums. I may expand this to restrict other steps in the group creation process (as other plugins using the group extension api may add in their own step)

    Basically the plugin removes the $bp->groups->group_creation_steps – adds in a custom position 0 step to display a closed page.

    actually you can create a login page in 1.2.1 and have your site private….. once they pass credentials, they will be allowed inside.

    Okay, thanks! Anyone have any idea o how this can be done now?

    I try to set up a bp site with 2 different kinds of members… and I need help wrapping my head around how I would set this up…

    And I do this with one single wp install with buddypress or should I split it up in several installs?

    I imagine that I with a single install could let members creat blog posts that non members can read.

    1. a set of members that are persons, this part will be mostly private. Meaning that non-members can only see profile pages with profile info and public blog posts, nothing else. all activity and groups will be private to members…

    non members would be able to see a members page where all members are listed.

    2. another set of members that are stores, also mainly private, but non members will be able to read profiles with info and map. non members would be able to see a store page where all stores are listed.

    my head hurts a little over here :)

    Hi, am trying to follow the following directions as supplied here:

    http://buddypress.org/forums/topic/faq-how-to-code-snippets-and-solutions

    The theme and the profile back end don’t support this right now but there is a mod you can try.

    Change line 11 which reads:

    <?php if ( bp_field_has_data()) : ?>

    To read:

    <?php if ( bp_field_has_data() && bp_field_has_public_data()) : ?>

    In /bp-themes/buddypress-member/profile/profile-loop.php

    Then you will manually have to use phpmyadmin and go into the table bp_xprofile_fields and change all the profile field records that are parent fields and have ‘0’ in the column ‘is_public’ to ‘1’ for the fields you want to show on the profile and ‘0’ for the fields you don’t want to show.

    Parent fields are the ones that have a ‘0’ in the ‘parent_id’ column.

    However, there is no ‘is_public’ field in my latest copy of WordPress + BuddyPress…

    @myqolik and @lautering – I believe my plugin does what you need. You mention wanting to enable people to read the content without joining the group – If you use my plugin then this is possible. When you set the group to Announcement-only, then ONLY admins and moderators can add content. The group can be public, private or even hidden. And for a public group, it doesn’t matter if the members join or don’t join, they still can’t add any content. So it really doesn’t matter if they join or don’t they still can’t write a thing. The benefit of joining the announcement group is that with email notifications plugin, you can turn that group into a email newsletter.

    Does that match what you are looking for?

    @intimez

    is_site_admin() is the function but will probably be deprecated soon when WP 3.0 comes out.

    Try this out:

    <?php if ( is_user_logged_in() && !bp_is_my_profile() && function_exists( 'bp_send_private_message_link' ) && ( my_bp_is_friend() || is_site_admin() ) ) : ?>

    —

    re: direct url to private message… you’ll have to modify the /bp-themes/bp-default/members/single/messages/compose.php file in your child theme to do a check for the username and if the logged-in user is friends with that username.

    If the username is friends with the logged-in user, show the form to complete the message; if not a friend, don’t show the form.

    There is a function that checks if a user is a site admin (can’t remember the name now but if you can’t find it let me know). you can use it to exclude the admin this allowing him to do send the message.

    Thanks,

    @r-a-y

    I did what you mentioned but the code in bp-custom.php is now showing up at the top of the page visible to all. Maybe I missed something else?

    edit: ooops, my mistake. It’s working now but I can PM by going direct URL.

    edit2: how to enable so admin can still PM w/o being friends?

    #66723
    r-a-y
    Keymaster

    Try this out in /wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php:

    function my_bp_is_friend() {
    global $bp;

    if (friends_check_friendship($bp->loggedin_user->id,$bp->displayed_user->id) )
    return true;

    return false;
    }

    Then copy /bp-default/members/single/member-header.php to your child theme.

    Next, edit:

    <?php if ( is_user_logged_in() && !bp_is_my_profile() && function_exists( 'bp_send_private_message_link' ) ) : ?>

    to:

    <?php if ( is_user_logged_in() && !bp_is_my_profile() && my_bp_is_friend() && function_exists( 'bp_send_private_message_link' ) ) : ?>
