Hi,
Im recently installed WPMU 2.8.6 with subdomains on FreeBSD and after installing BP I can see the main blog and the buddypress bar at the top but after I try and login as admin I start getting internal server errors and then cant access any of the site. After clearing cookies etc I can go back to square one and login again and then the same occurs. Ive read all the related posts and tried various solutions – here is the lowdown :
In my logs I have…
Thu Dec 10 13:17:28 2009] [error] [client 217.206.197.220] Premature end of script headers: index.php
[Thu Dec 10 13:18:14 2009] [error] [client 217.206.197.220] File does not exist: /var/www/projoosr.com/www/2009, referer: http://projoosr.com/
[Thu Dec 10 13:18:36 2009] [error] [client 217.206.197.220] Premature end of script headers: index.php, referer: http://projoosr.com/wp-login.php

Im hosting with a friend and not 1and1. The PHP settings are showing 64mb in the right places as suggested. I have tried the 1and1 htacces settings anyway and these do not help. Here is my htaccess anyway without the 1and1 stuff :
Options +FollowSymLinks
AuthName “Site”
AuthType Basic
AuthUserFile /var/www/projoosr.com/htrizzle/.htpasswd
Require valid-user
Im using htaccess Auth to keep the site private until I go live. One interesting thing – not sure if this is relevant but when I click on the link to the hello world test post that was created on wpmu install, as you can see in the logs, is not found on the server.
Also when I get rid of the BP directory I can access my site again – it looks like the problem is related to being logged in as admin under BP because after deleting the BP directory I can see that I was actually logged in as admin.
Any help much appreciated – hope Ive provided enough details !
So, I decided to take the plunge and upgrade from WPMU 2.8.4 and BP 1.01 to the latest WPMU 2.8.6 and BP 1.13.
Before upgrading, I decided to backup my entire MySQL table using the WP DB Backup tool – http://www.ilfilosofo.com/blog/wp-db-backup – and it create a .sql.gz file.
However, when I go to Tools -> Import to get all my data (posts, pages, members, blogs, etc) back, it only wants a WXR file. Do I have to import my backup using phpMyAdmin or another such tool?
The second part of my question would be why do I have some folders leftover from the upgrade that are unable to be removed from my FTP? These folders/files are located in wp-content/blogs.dir/ with numbered folders contained within containing a dated folder 2009, Avatars and an album folder with images within.
I only noticed this because I thought I had deleted all my files off my server before doing a manual install/upgrade. Yet when I logged in for the first time, my old profile picture from my last install was displaying. I’m using a new DB, so that tipped me off to look at the FTP. When I try to delete these folders I receive the following error:
550 Delete operation failed.
: /./public_html/private-beta/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/avatars/3/megskins4e98321fc3b9afc78de35aa4d524a43f-avatar2.jpg
Any idea? Thanks
My activity feed seemed broken, not recording new posts, and comments.
And yet it still worked for new wire posts, and status updates.
I traced this down in bp-blogs.php
function bp_blogs_record_activity( $args = '' ) {
...
if ( (int)get_blog_option( $blog_id, 'blog_public' ) ) { ... }
...
}I had forgotten that I recently went to the privacy settings, and changed it to:
(x) I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitorsI can understand how “privacy” could correlate to sharing information on the activity feed… but when checking this off, I still very much wanted the activity feed to keep churning for posts and comments… I simply wanted to keeps search engines from indexing my content, as the option states – the site’s content is not for public consumption.
It’s especially odd since this feature doesn’t block activity recording of status updates and wire posts… they still get recorded, and they’re no less private than new posts and comments. probably more so.
I don’t want to remove this if-check from the core, but I would still like to keep the content private from search engines while retaining activity records for posts and comments. it seems to me that in the future, the check to record the feed action should be based on a separate blog_option specific to the functionality of the feed…
but for now, any suggestions?
In trying to find the definitive process for integrating bbPress and BuddyPress to create a forum, with sophisticated user profiles.
bbPress is a fantastic forum application, but falls a little short when it comes to plugins and features (compared to WordPress). Having it work hand-in-hand with BuddyPress (WPMU) is a fantastic premise, but I can’t seem to find a definitive guide to doing this.
The best I’ve found is nearly a year old:
http://theeasybutton.com/blog/2009/04/30/integrating-buddypress-10-wpmu-and-bbpress/
And fails to achieve synchronized logins or true integration with the latest versions.
So I was wondering, if we could collectively lay out the steps to integrating the latest versions of each of the big 3 apps:
- WordPress MU 2.8.6
- BuddyPress 1.1.2
- bbPress 1.0.2
My goal is to have WPMU and BuddyPress as the root install (www.domain.com), bbPress in a /forums/ sub-directory (www.domain.com/forums), and have the users and logins synced between the two.
BuddyPress.org has essentially done this already, and I’d love to know how

I should say, I’m not looking to use the Groups or Forums functionality of BuddyPress, just primarily the profiles. Private messaging would be nice, but that’s just icing on the WP-Buddy-BB cake
Hey All!
I am trying to figure out how to exclude certain blogs/comments from recent activity. I have a private blog on my wordpress mu instance running buddypress and it is showing up posts and comments on the blog on my recent activities stream…
Can I exclude certain blogs somehow from that stream?
