I am using buddypress 1.0.1 + WPMU 2.7.1 + bbpress 1.0-rc-1
I suppose even if the groups forums are set to private, users can still see the threads posted from bbpress and can post in those threads.
I would like to hide the whole bbpress from the users and still allow users to access the forums through buddypress groups. But at the same time I would also like to use bbpress administration as the forums cannot be managed through buddypress.
Topic: Private Profile Information
When users register on my site, I want them to provide me with information such as gender, zip code, country, states, etc, however, I don’t want that information displayed on their public profile for everyone to see. How do I accomplish this?
I upgraded to 1.0.1 today (by admin panel).
later i made a new private group, and added a friend to it.
We now have both a notification in the bar (it says [1], sometimes [2] ),
when i mouse over it, it says: ‘ 2 New membership requests for the group “” ‘(notice that no group is filled between the “….
Sins this issue i got in the “site wide activaty widge”t just 1 activity, the rest won’t show up (only on widget)
I’m using latest wordpress. have even removed all buddypress files and put it back again.
Also got the language problem ->http://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=3085
Is there any way that I can make the Member and Group Directories require the user be logged in to see it? I would imagine its got to be similar to how private pages are handled.
Also, is there any known way to allow open sign-up for the network, but require moderator’s approval before the account can gain access to the pages?
Thanks!
Now that we’ve got the buddypress up and running we’re putting together materials to add to its social features and one of the things we’d like to do is add a section for our users to upload and download files.
This is a private server so we will not have to worry about spam.
Our users would be uploading files like word documents, pdf’s and ppts – mainly filled with resources for each other to pull information from.
I was thinking about setting up a page within the site and using asp.net or something but I’m not sure exactly what would be the best method.
Anyone have any suggestions on where I can read more about this?
When the admin for a private BP group gets an email requesting approval for a new member, BP creates Approve and Reject links. But they aren’t working for me. It looks like a nonce problem – the nonce key at the end of the URLs on [group]/admin/membership-requests is different from the one in the email. Is this a known problem?
In any case, I could just hack the core to remove the Approve/Reject links and replace them with a link to the membership-requests page. I’d rather do it with a plugin, but I can’t get my plugin to hook in. (I’m kind of new to this!) Is there something wrong with the hook I’m using? (WPMu 2.1.7, BP1.0)
remove_action( ‘groups_membership_requested’, ‘groups_notification_new_membership_request’ );
add_action( ‘groups_membership_requested’, ‘groups_notification_new_membership_request_custom’ );
Thanks for your help!

Okay. I am working on a site that is using groups — some private, some public. I had the brilliant idea to use .htaccess rules to keep people out of the forums directory, so the forums of the “private” groups would actually be private.
The only problem with this, is that every time I disable browsing the /forums directory, it breaks forums for the entire site. I have tried various configurations of deny all, allow localhost, 127.0.0.1, and the server’s own IP address. and still no dice.
Doesn’t buddypress pull forum posts straight from the MySQL db? Can someone give me a clue about this?
