    Since the 1.1 migration (from 1.0.3), we have an issue with the sign-up form.

    The name and email fields are displayed, then this error message:

    Fatal error: Call to undefined method BP_XProfile_Field::get_edit_html() in /home/casualgames/www/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-xprofile/deprecated/bp-xprofile-deprecated.php on line 446

    Any idea?

    I’m closing this topic since there is another one announcing the official release. Please route your responses here going forward.

    On my research of possible underpinnings for a site we are intending to build I came across BuddyPress, and I’m considering it as a viable alternative to Drupal, which would have been my first choice.

    We would need the commonplace components of a social site like user profiles with custom fields, image galleries (does BP have these already ?? – I saw some mention of it in the 1.0 roadmap but haven’t yet located them in the demo site), private messaging, a forum and even more

    Nevertheless, the recent discussion over at wpmu.org about WP MU being discontinued and the low development activity on WP MU in general made me think if BuddyPress is built on a rather fragile padding.

    Is it considered sensible to build a professional grade community upon a BP foundation yet? I am aware of GigaOM Pro et al. but still need a clue of how much in-house development and sysadmining work they do to keep BP afloat.

    Any insights?

    I also just noticed that buddypress profiles don’t import from wordpress profiles or vice versa. It takes enough tooth pulling to get people to complete one profile. Adding those fields to sign up would be good because required fields would also have some anti-spam benefits.

    Finally starting diving into 1.1 on my dev site and encountered a strange issue.

    wpmu 2.8.4a, bbPress 1.0

    just using plain default theme for now. forums work great. saved all my old posts. all seems ok BUT

    on back end no option panel for profile fields. on front end all profile data is gone but name and website. Under My Profile it just has Public (no edit profile or change avatar)

    Is this just a butchered install or something else?

    I’m about ready to ditch BuddyPress. I installed the latest trunk and have the BPDEV anti-spam component with a captcha. Still, people continue to register, bypassing required fields.

    The least that could happen is either BuddyPress become compatible with Akismet or enable some registration approval step, where an admin could delete accounts with empty profiles before they go “live.”

    Ok i now have WPMU 2.8.4a + Buddypress 1.1 Beta on lighttpd running.

    Profile fields can be saved but accepting group membership or friend requests always leads to a site: “Are you sure you want to do this? Please try again”

    So it is the same problem as with 2.8.3 + bp1.0.3 on lighttpd server.

    Must be an url-rewriting issue!?

    The generated acceptance url looks like this “http://domain.com/members/admin/friends/requests/accept/1?_wpnonce=94e23dc003”

    Please let’s find some lighttpd/lighty rewrite rules that work with wpmu+buddypress perfectly…

    With these rules everything works fine instead of the problem i mentioned above:

    server.error-handler-404 = “/index.php”

    url.rewrite-once = (

    “^/(.*/)?files/$” => “/index.php”,

    “^/(.*/)?files/(.*)” => “/wp-content/blogs.php?file=$2”,

    “^(/wp-admin/.*)” => “$1”,

    “^/([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(wp-.*)” => “/$2”,

    “^/([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(.*\.php)$” => “/$2”,

    )

    Which rules do you use with Bp (if you have lighttpd) ?

    Hey I think lot of you must be interested in this.

    Buddypress default theme is very very suitable for ads

    we can use ads in header, sidebar in profile fields, group fields, sidebar of members and blog directories.

    I think any plugin that can insert ads to these fields and simultaneously to each blogs (that comes under wpmu) will be quite great.

    This loop, which is part of the profile, seems to indicate (in pseudo-code) the following is happening: if there is a group, display the group name and then the group field contents. I still don’t see why all of my groups – but just base – are displayed.

    Have a look at this Codex article.

    As a general piece of advice, this is not specifically for the xprofile component, make sure that you check the codebase in the version of trunk that you’re using as there have been a number of changes to functions–some have been renamed, others deprecated, and new ones created. So it is possible that some of the Codex articles on BP loops may be slightly out of date.

    I’m considering moving some x-profile fields into the base, but wonder if the field data will move as well. If that’s not possible, can I export that data?

    Alternatively, can someone provide example code how to display profile fields beyond the simple base categories? (I’d like to offer the same functionality as the “edit profile” screen, where all members can select links in the status bar.)

    I’m using the latest trunk and the default theme.

    I need to update 1.1 Beta to the latest trunk in order to kill the ability of subscribers bypassing required registration fields. However, I want to be sure the profiles of current members are retained, as well as the overall database. What steps should I take to prepare for upgrading to the latest trunk? Thanks.

    I literally have to go to work after this post but:

    To fix your site, rename your plugins directory to anything else i.e. ‘aardvark’. Load admin again, it should load up OK. Rename ‘aardvark’ back to plugins. You’ll have to re-activate any existing plugins. Once those have been done, try activating BP site-wide again.

    BP v1.0.3 tables are:

    wp_bp_activity_sitewide,wp_bp_activity_user_activity,wp_bp_activity_user_activity_cached,wp_bp_friends, wp_bp_groups,wp_bp_groups_groupmeta,wp_bp_groups_members,wp_bp_groups_wire,wp_bp_messages_messages,wp_bp_messages_noticeswp_bp_messages_recipients,wp_bp_messages_threads,wp_bp_notifications,wp_bp_user_blogs,wp_bp_user_blogs_blogmeta, wp_bp_user_blogs_comments,wp_bp_user_blogs_posts,wp_bp_xprofile_data,wp_bp_xprofile_fields,wp_bp_xprofile_groups,wp_bp_xprofile_wire,

    Safe to delete as you haven’t used BP yet. Also these records in wp_sitemeta:

    Any “meta_key” beginning with “bp-” i.e. bp-core-db-version, bp-friends-db-version.

    If you don’t remove those meta_key records, then BP will think it’s already installed and won’t install itself again.

    Before you activate BP again, open up your web server error log in a window and see if you get any specific messages when you try to run.

    Also, versions of WPMU and BP you are you trying to install here will help us help you.

    how do you sort??

    #52760

    Partly. My goal is to create profiles available to all registered users. These profiles would include the “base” data (name, location, email, etc.) and then tabs which would display more field groups (such as clips, employment, etc.) Currently, however, the only way to view that data is if you either are an admin or the profile’s owner.

    I assume your are asking how users can view the other field groupings when they have selected “Edit Profile”. Look at the column heading. There are tabs for each field group. Clicking on a tab takes the user to that field group for editing.

    How do members view all profile sections, rather than just “base”? There is much extended details that members need to access, but only admins seem to be able to view.

    I have a detailed registration form, including several vital fields that are required. However, I’ve discovered there are no content checks. For instance, a field asking for work history can be skipped if a new user simply enters a character or even backspaces over the text.

    Secondly, is there a way to mark certain fields “private,” which can be viewed only by admins – providing some sense of security that information won’t be shared?

    Lastly, is there anyway to make the “Name” field in the “base” profile set editable? I need to provide some way (besides a blog post) of new subscribers knowing they must enter both their first and last names, not simply an anonymous login id.

    Thanks.

    Hi, I started to write a plugin for saving and displaying maps (from Google maps) on a user profile, based upon the value of some xprofile fields.

    I made it under BP1.0.3. (Seems that there are problems with BP1.1 ?)

    It is build on the top of the “mappress-google-maps-for-wordpress” plugin, so you have to install it too to make this work.

    First, you have to define in the mapPress admin page (bp-mapPress options are in there) some informations for bp-mapPress :

    -the profile group where the map will be loaded

    -the fields that will be used (ex. street + city + country) to search the location

    -some other minor stuff.

    Then, you can add a marker with a location in your profile.

    The map will be displayed on your profile too.

    !!!

    It’s an (very) early work but you can try it here; if you would like to see it.

    Just wondering what you think of after 2 days of work.

    I made some minor changes in the original mappress plugin (added the filters return ‘mappress_has_maps’, ‘load_map_args’ and ‘mappress_save_options’) : So I included my modded version in this zip so you can try it.

    I contacted the author of the plugin to see if he could add them in his code.

    He told me that he will soon release a new version so i’ll wait until that to continue the developpement…

    As you will see; there are bugs and it doen’t display very properly, but with some css and jquery it must be possible…

    If I continue working on this; I would like to add those features :

    -add a group submenu to list group members on a single map;

    -add a page where are listed all the members of the buddyPress

    -define “Get directions” to make the startpoint your own saved map :)

    Enjoy !

    I posted this on BBpress as well. I have the whole WPMU+BB+BP

    I’m looking for someone to make this plugin. If money is the issue please email me. Something like this but simpler. http://forums.phpbbgarage.com/garage.php

    I would it be separate from the forums. maybe another tab in a person’s profile.

    People can upload their car picture(s) and fill out pre determined fields.

    You will have a link under their name when they post saying garage where you see the person vehicle, like you see their profile. That would be the minimal and the starting point.

    Then more complex:

    -Have a directory of all the people’s car, maybe looking like the groups in bp (http://testbp.org/groups).

    -Have rating on the car

    -Top Rating, Random, Search, and Last updated.

    -Add more than one car, more than one picture

    You’ll have to echo that of course.

    <?php echo xprofile_get_field_data( $field_name_or_id, $user_id ); ?>
