    Hi,

on my site https://abtomed.com/registrieren/ nobody get’s a mail while register.

Not the user himself, nor the admin of the site.

I already tried smpt solutions, which unfortunately don’t help.

Also the plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/bp-registration-options/ doesn’t help at all.

What am i doing wrong about that issue?

Maybe someone can help to figure out. Also i want a “I read the privacy policy informations” checkbox inside this registration form and a recaptcha spamprotection, but don’t know how to solve it… :/

    Cheers

Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

Any time I activate the plugin, I get knocked off and shown the WP default sign in screen.

When I try to log in, nothing happens except a message stating my account was marked as spam.

Not sure why this does this no matter how many times I try to fix the issue.

    Please and thanks

Email should work but much can go wrong including things connected to plugins, themes and functions.php or bp-custom.php files.

Presuming the email didn’t go into spam, and WordPress sent emails before installing BuddyPress, then one thing that can be tried is disabling all plugins except except buddypress and the ( un-customised ) bp-default theme.

If this is a localhost/dev site then php / server has to be correctly configured and/or upgraded for email. Alternatively WP Mail SMTP may be useful in this situation…

The main email address is set on the wordpress Settings > General page.
I would advise you check you have correct PTR record for your IP address, and also set a SPF record along with your MX records doing these two things can drastically affect how mail servers receive your mail or reject it if not happy these two items exist and check out as valid.
There may be other issues in some situations. For more info see: How to fix WordPress Not Sending Email issue

    Im not a programmer
so .. can i at least clear out spam?
or work on documentation or something?

To Be Fair. (and Im not trying to be a jerk)

*I* think that waving the “Its free” flag as a blanket defense is what BREAKS the goodwill on both side.. (of course no one should ever take each other for granted)

But.. OPEN-SOURCE – FREE –IS—INDEED–an– Actual business model.

Again not to be a jerk (but *ITS FREE* is not a shield) — again, lets face it.. WP makes money off there software.. the FREE part is a component that makes the system work.. (im not gonna bore you with the nuance – Hacknernews does a better job at it)

Anyway.. I respect everyone that are in the BP team and all of the contributors — but i think we can do it better — I really dont want to see the promise of BP and its potential fizzle away..

and in my opinion — waving the the *Its Free* banner when someone says something – is what breaks the “FOSS” ecosystem…

-Frankly.. Although there are upcoming updates… the pattern of BP reminds me of other projects — maybe something like ‘O2’ – Breathe/p2?

I guess — It still feels like BP is at its last leg… (?)

Im sorry to say that despite of the “updates” — BP is an extreme bear to wrestle..

    1) SUPPORT of any sort seems to be very lacking
    2) The usability (ui/ux) is sketchy –> its one of the reasons BP adoption is klunky (it takes too much work)
    3) the “THEME” (look & feel) is awful
    4) Theres SPAM on the support forum
    5) Documentation is getting sketchier & sketchier
    6) Between Buddypress, The Built-in wordpress-user/author mechanism AND “wordpress.com user-system” –its just confusing
    7) The Buddypress plugin ecosystem is a big gamble (most dont work right)
    8) WP community ALWAYS preaches to have as little plugins as possible – but get getting buddypress to be usable takes at least a dozen

***SUPPORT OF ANY SORT IS LACKING*****

There are a few decent enough anti-spam and moderation tools available but I am not 100% satisfied with them. Some of the best, seem to be premium only which I feel is something that can be changed.

Which is why I have started a project to create a fully free community maintained reporting and moderation addition for BuddyPress. My background is in PHP development so I am confident that given enough time (and that is the limiting factor here), I can create something quite special. There is nothing special about me, so more coders, testers, etc. means faster development.

What I am aiming towards is something that works a little like Facebook’s community standards reporting feature. Admins and moderators can see the reports, add comments, take actions, and update the report accordingly.

Users can see the progress of their reports and will know if the admins agreed with them or not (and hopefully their reasons).

I’d like to be able to offer users the chance to report spammy users, bad content, and so forth.

I also hope to make it all largely extensible by coding it in such a way that others can write extensions to make it do whatever they need it to do for a particular edge case.

What is slowing me down is the amount of each day I spend in too much pain to sit at my computer and write code. Which is why, I have taken to putting all of my open personal projects on GitHub (including this one, which is new) in the hope that I am not the only PHP nerd with spare time and a desire to make this happen.

If you want to contribute, you will be very welcome. Do the usual – form my repo and feedback any work you feel you can contribute. I’ll keep chipping away at this in those hours when my body lets me do stuff because I need this for my own projects. The more of us there are, though, the better this can be.

    https://github.com/lordmatt/bp-report-stuff

    Let’s make this happen.

I’m running WP 5.2.2 and the latest version of BuddyPress. Just did a fresh install and checked the settings in the backend.

I have 2 admins and an author, all 3 of us are listed as spam from the get go when i look at our user profiles in the backend…. so theres that…

When im on the /members page, it shows ‘Sorry, no members were found’ when looking at ‘Last Active’ sort.

Same message when viewing ‘Newest Registered’ Sort

but when i sort by alphabetical, it shows all 3 of us and only shows me as active and the other 2 as never active…. but when i log out and log back in as another user, it shows her as her as active and my acount as never active….

Am I supposed to register these user accounts? And if so, how do I do it? we’re all marked as spam, and i don’t even see a way to unspam our profiles…

I’m very new to BuddyPress and I have a feeling I’m going to be asking a lot of questions on this forum…….

It still works on mine. We do get spammers occasionally that send mass friend requests then spam, but I can usually block their user before too much damage is done. It’s the best thing to a solution that I could find.

Spambots created 81K groups on a client’s BP site. I assume I need to delete them from the database, as it will take too long to delete them in wp-admin.

There are no other groups on this site, so I need to delete all groups.

If I am deleting them from the db using phpmyadmin, what do I need to do to make sure I delete all their data without touching other data?

Is there a better way to delete all 81K groups?

I’ve created a site using Buddypress for a client. In testing, activation emails would be sent (sometimes to spam) but once the site launched my client started getting complaints from people not receiving their activation email, and their emails weren’t in their spam folders either.

Some people are clicking ‘resend activation’ multiple times to no avail. While others are able to get in just fine. The site has over 3,000 users now and several hundred of them had to be activated by my client manually, which is unacceptable!

Has anyone else had this issue where activation emails only SOMETIMES send? All the other posts I’ve seen about activation emails seem to be that none of them are working.

What could be the solution for this intermittent sending?

    Hi,

For evryone that experienced the same with the user with same ip adress in failed login report I found an soloution.I installed many security plugin even bought some but the problem was still there. Then One day I started to do 2 things. First I removed all the page that where not necessairy for my site. Second what I did was I removed couple plugins that where there but just in deactivation mode. Those 2 combination did the trick. Ore there was a plugin that was doing strange things ore it got confused off all the diffrente page in the background that i didnd’t needed. I easily removed 30 page.
I hope one day if a person experience the same problem as me that this can guide him to a solution.

For all the spambots, for me the All In One WP Security & Firewall helped really well to block spambots even before it could enter my site.

I am on the right track now. I found out that Peepso shortcode was still in pages named the same as BP pages. So I deleted them all and made new ones for BP and they all are non peepso now.

For the Groups issue, it is still happening though, even after deleting permanently the Groups page (in case attache din anyway with Peepso).

All users are still marked as spammers. If i have to re enter them manually I will.

I will have to try the register process now as it did not work before.

Are you able to help with these remaining issues?

Not sure if this is a wordpress or buddypress issue so posting in both places. I run a writers community with buddypress and have set up forums where members can post pieces of work. We are experiencing some difficulty with the comment blacklist which prevents some words from being used even if within a word e.g. double breasted…. and one piece of work I can’t for the life of me find the word that is blocking the post… whilst I want to be able to stop spam comments, surely forum posts from members who have to be signed in to post is another thing? Any suggestions? I am useless with code :). Even if we had something which could identify the rogue word we could do something about it…

    Thank you

    Hi all
    Has anyone had this before:
    – Buddypress user posts a post in a group
    – I comment on it (as site/group admin – not sure what happens if another user does)
    – Refresh page, post disappeared!
    – Looking in Stream logs, it says I marked the post as spam
    – Looking in Activity, where the post should be, it says “The site is experiencing technical difficulties. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.”
    – Checking the email box, I have the following email:

“Since WordPress 5.2 there is a built-in feature that detects when a
plugin or theme causes a fatal error on your site, and notifies you
    with this automated email.

In this case, WordPress caught an error with one of your plugins, BuddyPress.”

This has happened twice on my site now. Can anyone please help?

    Thanks!
