    In reply to: Delicate Theme

    To make your WP theme, Delicate, compatible with BuddyPress, you need to install and activate the BP Template Pack plugin then go through the BP compatibility process https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/

    WP/BP versions? It looks more like a plugin or BP theme which needs to be updated. First, change to bp-default theme and see if behavior is corrected. If that doesn’t work, try deactivating plugins to isolate whether the issue is with BuddyPress, BP configurations in dashboard or your with third-party add-ons.

    I installed a new WP and the only plugins i put up were buddypress and your theme. Did the same thing. Did you try putting in a sub-menu name with a character length like this? “testing this is the menu”
    is there a limit to the length of letters due to a static bg? or should it draw the box as far as the sub-menu title?
    thanks

    You have something installed that is messing with the CSS. I activated this theme on my dev site http://dev.buddiphone.com.

    I’m not getting the same issue. The widget theme is using the CSS and header from bp-default so it can’t be this theme causing the issue.

    Okay for those of you that encounter the error.

    1) Install WP multisite, Install BuddyPress and use enable site wide bp_default theme.

    2) Make sure you create a menu in the WP menu system.

    If you do not have a WordPress registered ‘menu’ then the system don’t work and you cause a PHP exception. This should be easy developer fix in the Buddypress code with a protective statement or catch all in bp_dtheme_content_nav.

    Thanks for your help.

    Yeah tried deactivating the theme and no luck…
    Is it because I have it in its own directory? (since It is in a folder on another domain, not interested in paying hosting on 10 sites all related to one thing)

    The BP Template Pack plugin makes your WP theme compatible with BuddyPress. Looks like you still need to go through Step 3 of the BP compatibility process. Check out links to walkthroughs at the bottom of this page https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/

    == I’m not able to remove the old BP template pack files through FTP or on the server side ==
    This is a strange and serious issue which you need to take care of. First time I’ve heard it happen on dedicated server.

    Okay, figure it out, it’s the BP template pack. Any ideas how to work around it? Now everything works, but it looks terrible.

    Does this mean I can only use the BP default theme?

    ETA – I’m not able to remove the old BP template pack files through FTP or on the server side (I have a dedicated server) and even with full admin access, I can’t change the file permissions so I can delete them.

    I’m having the same issue. I’m using a free theme, however, called Platform, by Pagelines. My register and activate pages are supposed to be child menued under my members page, but the menu doesn’t appear and entering the address directly redirects you back to the home page layout. Tried changing to other themes but nothing makes it work.

    Have you changed to bp-default theme, cleared cache, and see if error is corrected?

    == it gets stuck at the step where it says that I have to manually upload to …/bp-themes. ==
    This means that for some reason, you server prevented the automatic transfer of the required BP folders into the folder of your activated WP theme.

    1. Download a copy of BuddyPress to your computer hard drive – https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress/

    2. Unzip, and upload the following folders from the BuddyPress folder to your server’s wp-content/themes/name-of-your-WP-theme via FTP/cpanel/FileManager:
    – activity
    – blogs (if you’re on multisite)
    – forums
    – groups
    – members
    – registration

    3. Proceed with Step 3 of the BP Compatibility Process

    I suspect the theme you purchased might not have been upgraded for WP 3.3 and BuddyPress 1.5.2 and those are issues you have to bring to the theme author. /they should provide free support for their premium themes.

    Should be in your buddypress plugin’s folder.

    I finally found an answer which I shall tell you about in case anybody else is trying to do the same.
    I changed the theme to “Suffusion” http://aquoid.com/news/themes/suffusion/
    installed the suffusion buddypress pack. When you go to activate BP use the option “don’t change my theme”
    and Viola we have buddypress working with the WP register and login.

    It’s really difficult to help as I don’t understand arabic and google translate isn’t much use in this situation.

    It’s also unhelpful that there doesn’t seem to be an official arabic translation of buddypress ( or here or here )….

    ( https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/ )

    Does it work with bp-default theme?

    If it’s the premium theme from http://www.theme-junkie.com/themes/freshlife/ then they might provide support for it on their forum: http://www.theme-junkie.com/forum/

    I had this problem and have finally solved it.

    Here’s what I did:

    1. deactivate all plugins except buddypress
    2. change theme to default
    3. backup your bb-config.php file
    4. delete bb-config.php
    5. backup /public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-forums
    6. rename /public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-forums
    7. download the latest version of Buddypress
    8. upload new version of /public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-forums
    9. upload rest of the latest version buddypress files
    10. go to your dashboard >Buddypress > components >forums click to install group forums and it will create a new bb-config.php file
    11. create a new group – DO NOT SELECT ENABLE DISCUSSION FORUM
    12. save the group
    13. go back into the group and select enable discussion forum
    14. create a new topic for your new forum
    15. If it works – check the other groups.
    16 If the other groups don’t work – de-select enable discussion forum and save – then select discussion forum and save again – see if that helped.
    17. change to your custom theme – double check again. You may need to redo step 16 for some of your groups
    18. reactivate your plugins and check again – you may need to redo step 16

    I know that seems like a lot of steps – and possible you could skip some of them – but that’s the exact process I used and it worked… woot!!

    Good luck

    == when I copied the header.php file over to my new theme’s folder and attempted to edit it in the appearance editor I received this message- “Sorry, that file cannot be edited.” ==
    It’s a known issue – https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/16744

    == I’m wondering if it would just be easier to edit the header.php file from my computer rather than the Buddypress dashboard and reupload every time I make a change? ==
    That’s the way to do it.

    Hey, I came up with this solution.
    I wanted to make “Following” the default activity sub_nav if I’m visiting my profile and “Personal” if I’m visiting someone elses’. On /plugins/buddypress/bp-activity/bp-activity-loader.php:
    `
    // Add ‘Activity’ to the main navigation
    $main_nav = array(
    ‘name’ => __( ‘Activity’, ‘buddypress’ ),
    ‘slug’ => $this->slug,
    ‘position’ => 10,
    ‘screen_function’ => ‘bp_activity_screen_my_activity’,
    ‘item_css_id’ => $this->id,
    ‘default_subnav_slug’ => bp_is_my_profile() ? ‘following’ : ‘just-me’
    );

    // Add the subnav items to the activity nav item if we are using a theme that supports this
    $sub_nav[] = array(
    ‘name’ => __( ‘Personal’, ‘buddypress’ ),
    ‘slug’ => ‘just-me’,
    ‘parent_url’ => $activity_link,
    ‘parent_slug’ => $this->slug,
    ‘screen_function’ => ‘bp_activity_screen_my_activity’,
    ‘position’ => bp_is_my_profile() ? 29 : 10
    );
    `
    Then change the ‘position’ => of “Mentions” and “Favorites” for values higher than 29 and lower than 40 (“Friends”)

    Hope it helps ! I’d like some feedback on this
