Topic: BuddyPress Maps
Hi, I’m currently developping a plugin to display and save maps (google maps) in BuddyPress.
The core component allows to save, edit and display markers on a map; and you can use it for your own plugins.
For example, I made a plugin to “attach” a map to a user’s profile,
and i’m working on another one to display a map with all the locations of the users of a group.
demo : http://dev.benoitgreant.be/wordpress-mu/members/admin/profile/public/
You can try to register on this demo site and edit your profile to see how it works.
There are many options to customize the maps; one of them is the “dynamic” parameter (both/static/dynamic).
Both (default) means that the map is displayed as a picture. If you click it, it loads a real map wherin you can move. This should avoid loading to much javacript.
You can also choose the number of markers a map can include,
If titles and descriptions are available for this marker, etc.
I’m also working on the privacy (not yet fully working) : for each marker, the user can choose who (visitor, member or friend) :
-can/can’t see the marker
-if he can see the marker, you can also choose to not display the exact location (it will be a random location at +-150m of the original location). Eg. for a profile location : you can choose that visitors (non registered users) will not be able to see your marker; that a regular member will be able to see it but not the exact location; and that your friends will be able to see the exact point.
In the future, i’ll try to use this to filter query results for geo-location.
Well; I guess there is lot of potential for this one !!!
Would someone help me with this problem? When I activate BP plugin I get the following 500 error. Could it be conflict between BPver 1.1.3 and WPMU ver 2.9.1? :
Error message:
Premature end of script headers: plugins.php
With plugin active or deactive I get the following error when I try to open with BP default theme:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function bp_page_title() in /home/www/wordpresstester.com/mu/wp-content/themes/bp-sn-parent/header.php on line 9
I can delete BuddyPress folder from wp-content/plugins and WPMU install works fine.
Here’s my stats:
Running WPMU version 2.9.1 – new installation
MU installed in subdirectory
WP/MU was functioning properly before installing BuddyPress
Buddy version 1.1.3 – new installation
No other plugins running or installed
standard BP theme
No modifications
No custom functions in bp-custom.php
Not running bbPress

Hi all,
I am planning to turn a 10 year old but popular spaghetti-coded html/php mishmash of a site into something more, well, current and valid

Starting points:
– The domain is live and currently running on a simple Hostgator account (it is amazing how much traffic that can handle if you are not PHP-heavy).
– I have a Hybrid Server, which has already one other WPMU/BP community running, so I know the basics and have the resources.
– I want to build the new site -stealth- while the old one is still live and then when all seems well and ready, ‘flick the switch’.
Would this be the best practice or am I thinking wrong?:
– Install the new BP on a (temporary) domain on the new server and then populate it while being hidden to Google, regular visitors etc.
– Once everything is working, update MySql to the domain I really want to use.
– Change name servers to point to new server, change HTPPD.conf info for new (old) domain.
– Ready?
Am I missing something here and could you help me with the following:
– What is the best way to populate a ‘live’ (on a public server) site, view/test it online, but keep it hidden/private for non-admins (to prevent copycats, leaking, Google indexing etc)? The ‘privacy settings do no offer this choice? do I need a plugin for that?
– Which way to Chenge the Site url is working best (see http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL ), are the 2 ‘defines’ enough currently?
Many thanks for your help,
Cheers, Harry
Hello,
I noticed Buddypress confuses the use of the WP “siteurl” and “home” variables.
The following scenario applies to WPMU 2.9.1.1 and BP 1.2 RC2.
I have moved all my core WPMU files to their own directory instead of the root. This requires me to update the “siteurl” variable to point to those files. The “home” variable still points to the domain. (As recommended in http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL)
Meanwhile, in bp-core.php, the bp_core_get_root_domain() description says: “@return $domain The domain URL for the blog.” However, the actual functions return the value of “siteurl” instead of “home.” In this case, “siteurl” is *not* the value of the domain. If I manual edit this core file to make the change the problem goes away.
Otherwise, the result is that some links generated by BP, i.e. adminbar, look like http://domain/wpdir/members instead of http://domain/members (the addition of the <wpdir> folder).
Can this be changed in the next release?
Greetings. I’m not sure if this a WordPress MU or Buddypress question – but in order to avoid duplicate content on my site I think it’s a good idea to remove the post content from the blog page, leaving only the title.
Do you think so, and where do I get into this loop?

Topic: Enabling default theme
I have succesfully installed wordpress-mu with buddy press, and I enabled the two buddy press themes in the site admin section. Now when I go to activate them under apperace–>themes they dont work, when I go to view site the site is just blank no error. Any Ideas?
Similar to the 1.1.x versions that could easily be upgraded in wordpress, why can’t the same be done with this? There are a handful of posts of users expressing woes with upgrading from the different 1.2 versions… but that could easily be solved if added to the WP plugin directory.
When a 1.2 version is updated, the users’ plugin dashboard will say to upgrade, it upgrades… simple as the earlier versions. Please consider this. Thank you.

RC2 was fine. Just copied RC3 on top of it overwriting.
