I was playing with bbpress and deep integration over the weekend and found it easy enough to setup.
I am wondering if it is possible to do the same just with a BP member theme.
The idea would be to call the header, footer, sidebar etc from within the bpmember themes. I noticed each page there is the get_header tag which gets the header from the root of the bpmember folder.
We would need to write some code that tells it to step out of the bpmember theme and pickup the wordpress header instead.
All you would need is the header and footer, the content areas of the bpmember theme could stay the same. All you would then have to do is add the css tags into the home themes stylesheet to display the content areas as they are already or with mods do make it fit better within the theme.
Any ideas? Is this even possible? What is the equivilant to wp-config.php within BP ?

I just recovered from a bad spam incident on my buddypress site. A user (who looked legit) suddenly started private messaging the whole community with obviously spam material resulting in some very angry members
I will go ahead and install Akismet and a captcha during registration H.owever, is it true that each user has to obtain their own key from wordpress.com and plug it into Akismet to get it to work? Is there an alternative that I can just activate for everyone? Or can I just provide all my members with my key to activate their akismet?
Also, what steps have other BP admin used to prevent the kind of spam that I mentioned above? I do not think Akismet & the captcha during registration would have helped in this situation.
Is there a plugin that flags users who message a lot of users in a short time? Something like that might help fight spammers.

Hello, I need help, I have installed wordpress mu 2.7.1, buddypress.1.0.1 and bbpress-1.0-rc-3.
I have the “Attention Site Admin: Group forums require the correct setup and configuration of a bbPress installation” stupid famous msg. I have added all the plugins, edited config files of bbpress and wordpress to match auth keys (as explained), etc. added a new user in buddypress, change to “admin” state in bbpress, etc
I dont know what more to try, I read all posts, added small pieces of code to config files, deleted cookies, etc
I am lost, I spent 8 hours trying things and nothing. Same msg. I have one database for wordpress mu and other for bbpress…
Any idea of something I could test? or maybe something fails in my server?
I have done the XML-RPC test that Burt created and server said: “Hello from bbPress!” so it works… I am so tired

Just updated my Custom Profile Filters for Buddypress http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/custom-profile-filters-for-buddypress/. Allows users to specify which phrases in their profiles should be linked to a site-wide search. Also gives admins the power to turn off the automatic linking of a given profile field, and to specify fields (like Twitter or FriendFeed) where the handle should redirect to the social networking profile page, rather than a BP search.
Topic: Missing BP Admin Bar on Blog
On my install of BuddyPress, one of my blogs hides the admin bar when a certain theme is used (Diet Apple from http://www.sem-pros.com/search-engine-marketing/services/freewordpressthemes.htm). The admin bar comes back when I switch to another theme, and it works fine on all the other blogs (which have different themes).
How is the admin bar called? I’d like to keep this theme if possible.

Has anyone got any custom jQuery scripts playing nice with BuddyPress 1.0.1. and are you able to help a jQuery novice with something probably really easy?
Basically when I have <?php wp_head(); ?> loading, any code I have in a custom.js file doesn’t seem to work.
e.g something simple like the following that is meant to slide a login form in and out when you click the link doesn’t work:

});I have found reference to the wp enqueue script and am wondering if I should be using the following syntax to load custom javascript in WordPress at page load instead?
jQuery(document).ready(function($){I have tried the above systax instead but it still doesn’t work so I think I am missing something quite fundamental to do with BuddyPress and jQuery

You do not have any BuddyPress themes installed.
Please move “/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/” to “/wp-content/bp-themes/” and refresh this page. You can download more themes here.
I have moved the bp-themes to the correct directory and all the permissions are correct. When clicking on ‘General Settings’ under the buddypress menu, the “Select theme to use for BuddyPress generated pages” drop down shows all the themes in my standard wordpress themes folder
Any idea whats going on?

This thread is about Mike Pratt’s Featured Groups Widget. This allows site admins to select certain BP groups to feature. It has nothing to do with individual members.
It sounds like you are talking about my Featured Member(s) Widget. If you are, you set a featured member by their unique ID, not by their username. When editing the widget’s parameters, it states “Member ID(s)
” and “Separate member IDs by commas”.A member ID is the unique number automatically assigned to each user by WPMU upon registration. You can find each member’s unique member ID (also called userid), by logging into WPMU and clicking on “Site Admin > Users”. Then, hover your cursor of a given member’s username and look at the link text. you’ll see this in the url “user_id=”. You can also obtain a user’s unique ID by looking at the “ID” field in the wp_users table in WPMU’s MySQL DB.
I want a registration form that looks something like this:
First name: …
Last name: …
Email address: …
Sign Up! (button)
This excellent plugin makes login with email address possible; a username is no longer needed!
Restructuring the registration form in WPMU/BP appears to be almost impossible. I’ve posted other questions about this, like here, but this post is an attempt to start at the top and go through it step by step.
1. Created a custom field “Last name” and made it required. It appears under “* Name:” on the form as “* Last name:”.
How can I rename “* Name:” on the form to “* First name:”?
2. Went into bp-core-signup.php to change the order of the registration form fields – or is there a better way? To move the ‘firstname’ and ‘last name’ fields to the top of the form I’ve moved this bit up:

Why? Is there any way to remove this from the initial registration and move it to optional profile fields?

Where and how are the extra_fields generated? How can I change their appearance, remove/edit text, etc.?
Solutions to this would be a good start. More problems later…
Not sure if this is the right place to be posting this question, but anyway…
I am using BP 1.0.1 and bbPress 1.0 alpha 6.
When a WPMU site administrator joins a group in BuddyPress and makes a group forum post in BP, in the bbPress admin area, it shows the user as a regular member, instead of a Key Master (or whatever role you setup in bbPress’s user role map to sync with WordPress).
The only person who seems to be a Key Master is the bbPress user who is integrated with BuddyPress.
Is this the way it is supposed to work currently? Or am I doing something wrong?

Hi,
I am a little bit confused with how BuddyPress is supposed to work. I have a blog running WordPress.
I wish to add a social networking layer, like BuddyPress promises, but its asking for WordPress MU.
So, if I am not mistaking I have to upgrade my WordPress Site to WordPress MU, and then setup BuddyPress?
Is there any specific guide or an article that can assist me in making the move?
I am not interested in subhosting blogs, just add a social networking layer to my current blog.
