I’m using Manually approve plugin for this. It’s not in the wordpress gallery but works on MU. My only problem is that I get thise error with bp themes:” Fatal error: Call to undefined function bp_page_title() in /home/thebaman/public_html/wp-content/themes/custom-community/header.php on line 11″ Any suggestions? Here’s the plugin link : http://mattkern.com/wpmu-manually-approve-new-members-on-local-install/
I have a WordPress site with multi-user enabled and Buddypress. However whenever I try to access the Blogs section of the site (http://cgstudent.co.uk/blogs/) I get the following error:
Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access /blogs/ on this server.
Apache/2.2.8 (Ubuntu) mod_jk/1.2.25 mod_python/3.3.1 Python/2.5.2 PHP/5.2.4-2ubuntu5.10 with Suhosin-Patch mod_ssl/2.2.8 OpenSSL/0.9.8g mod_perl/2.0.3 Perl/v5.8.8 Server at cgstudent.co.uk Port 80
Is this a folder permissions problem? Or is there another cure to this issue?
Hey Gang,
Been looking at BP for our community, which is currently:
Articles: WordPress
Forums: VBulletin
I’ve been searching the archives, and see a lot of people have asked for a vBulletin bridge over the last year … has that ever been completed?
I believe I’d be more interested in an IMPORT (bringing all vBulletin discussions permanently into BP) as opposed to bridging the two. Is there an import feature available?
If I’m understanding it correctly, in BuddyPress, the “Groups” are essentially the same as the typical Forums/SubForums, right?
I am displaying the latest forum posts using the activity loop as per: http://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-activity-stream-loop/
I would like to display the GROUP AVATAR each forum post belongs to, but dont know how to do this. I am able to get the title of the group, the link, id but am not able to get the code for the actual file. The code I need looks like this:
`<img src="http://www2.gamesphere.com.br/files/group-avatars/15/33d271f434b9472f3901ff564b1794b0-bpfull.jpg"`
I am able to get all pieces of this code except the long string encoding: 33d271f434b9472f3901ff564b1794b0.
Is this code generated using MD5 or something?
I appreciate any help I can get.
My code is below and you can view a live demo at: http://www.gamesphere.com.br/gsDEV/index.php
thanks

When we activate the bp-default theme, the javascript in wp-admin stops working (i.e. the arrow buttons to open menus in the left column, add new categories button, populating dashboard content, no longer work).
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any thoughts on cause / solution?
Our set up: WordPress 3.0.1 ; BuddyPress 1.2.6; bp-default 1.2.6
Have tried re-installing WordPress and BuddyPress, but still the problem persists.
Note: everything works fine until the bp-default theme is activated.
Thanks very much for your reply!
1) I am actually using the same child theme for all of the blogs. I’ve noticed that every blog expect from the primary domain blog has the following reference:
“
This is inserted in the head section with the code below which I assume means it’s from the database
“
^ I only need to edit one line from that file but it doesn’t exist so I don’t know what to do
It doesn’t work if I use a CSS over right either
2 & 3 Thank you soooo much! You’ve moved 2 current and many future problems for me! May I ask which plugin you personally recommend?
Hi Paul,
Thanks for your response.
Here are more info:
Theme: eStore theme from Elegant Themes.
BuddyPress: latest one downloaded from Buddypress.org.
Wordpress: 3.0.1
Plugins: Gravity Forms, WPMU DEV’s “Membership” Premium, BuddyPress Template Pack
Let me know if you require more information. Thanks so much!
Cheers
Jiahui
1) Depends if you’re using the same theme/child theme for both/all blogs. If you are doing so, both should have same styles.
2) https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wpmu-new-blog-defaults/ or https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/yd-wpmu-sitewide-options/
3) see New Bkig Defaults plugin above
http://codex.wordpress.org/Post_Formats
Post Formats will be included in WP 3.1 (December release). Will BuddyPress have a 1.2.8 set during this time period so that post formats are included in the default theme? I know 1.2.7 is set to be released this or next week …. it would be wonderful to not have to wait until 1.3
I joined it, and downloaded it – but have yet to use it.. apparently the plugin requires a “phone home” to one of the wpmu dev computers every time someone or some spammer tries to sign up – and you need to have a current subscription to their premium service in order for that part to work… I asked in their forums (as a paid current member) if the other parts of the plugin will still work if I discontinue my monthly paid subscription to wpmu dev premium – and I got no response about that.. so I have yet to install it – as I can not see paying every month for the rest of my life…
there has also been discussion about using the plugin to go through all of your past members and looking for splogers – and apparently it will not work for that – only for new signups…
Right now my hope is that bp-registration options ( https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-registration-options/ ) will incorporate some of the tricks from TTC ban hammer ( https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ban-hammer/changelog/ )and that the buddypress code will actually make it easier for us stop spmmers – right now buddypress ignores wordpress’ ban email domain features – and that just sucks – the bp registration options stops about 80% of the spammers from being able to post – but there is something in the BP code that lets some of them scoot right through, even with hashcash plugin, SI captcha plugin, and the BP registration Options running – buddpress wastes about 3 hours a week of my time simply deleting sploggers… but hey there are new features coming soon right? LOL
If possible, increase the memory limit in either php.ini, .htaccess, or in the wp-config.php file.
In php.ini
`memory_limit = 128M ; Maximum amount of memory a script may consume (128MB)`
Follow the proper procedures for restarting apache, etc.
.htaccess method
This is in my .htaccess because of file upload limitations in the php.ini as well as memory limits (I use many many plugins).
`php_value memory_limit 256M
php_value upload_max_filesize 55M
php_value post_max_size 55M
php_value max_execution_time 80000
php_value max_input_time 80000`
In wp-config.php
`define(‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ‘128M’);`
Installing BuddyPress 1.2.6 to WordPress 3.0.1, I get this error:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 122880 bytes) in /home1/simpsonw/public_html/wp-admin/includes/schema.php on line 734
Please advise!
Phil
You need to change the permalink structure (something other than the default setting) in your wordpress-settings.
I have the WP Smooth theme by Solostream installed on WordPress. Buddypress was installed and activated. I clicked on “upgrade your existing wordpress theme” and it took me to Search Results where it listed Buddy Press Template Pack. The Search Results area indicates the Template Pack is installed. 1) Is Buddy Press ready to use? 2) How do I remove the notice at the top of the Plug-ins window : “BuddyPress is ready. You’ll need to activate a BuddyPress compatible theme to take advantage of all of the features. We’ve bundled a default theme, but you can always install some other compatible themes or upgrade your existing WordPress theme.”
As noted in the ticket:
https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/1125#comment:3
It should be possible by creating a plugin.
If you have a little WordPress experience, check out /buddypress/bp-groups.php for all the necessary hooks and filters to start work on the plugin.
Hello everyone,
So for the last year I’ve been meaning to create a new skateboarding website but this time more of a community with WordPress MU/Buddypress rather than information based< I'm blown away with both WordPress MU and Buddypress!
I’m running into a couple of issues which I help someone can help me with. Granted, they are quite minor but I’m a bit mad
My new site is: http://www.skateify.com/
Now thanks to WordPress MU visitors can create their own blogs, e.g acoolsite.skateify.com
Anyway here are my questions:
1) On my main site you’ll see that the top admin bar stretches across the whole site. Now when someone creates a blog such as http://concept.skateify.com the bar doesn’t stretch across the whole site. This would normally involve some CSS tweaks but the strange thing is that the CSS files are identical with the main domain as each blog uses the same custom theme. So I’m trying to figure out why this is. For those who are familiar with Buddypress, do sub-blogs automatically have different stylesheets?
2) I have created a custom permalink structure for the main blog. Now when someone registers for a free blog by default I would like this permalink structure to be selected. Is this possible or am I taking this too far?
3) Is it possible to hide the default theme from users admin panel and turn my theme on by default? At the moment when a new blog is created it shows a white page. I imagine this is because it’s looking for the default WordPress theme (TwentyTen). It works perfectly once the user selects my custom theme in the admin panel.
Thanks very much for any assistance with this!
Jack
What versions of WordPress and BuddyPress are you using? Which theme? What other plugins are installed?
I have WordPress 3.0.1 installed on a WebFusion VPS 2.0 Server on the domain http://www.cgstudent.co.uk. However every time I attempt to activate the Buddypress plugin I get the following error:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 30720 bytes) in /**/***/**/***/httpdocs/wp-admin/includes/plugin.php on line 352
How do I resolve this problem? I don’t get this problem when trying to activate Buddypress on another WordPress site of mine (http://www.z01.co.uk) which is housed on the same server. Does anyone have any ideas? Now I can no longer access the Site Admin error without this error coming up.
Having same issue after upgrade. Reopening ticket.

[wordpress3.0.1+buddypress1.2.6]
Thank you mate, I will try this now. Btw in wordpress version 1.3, will be able to disable this part of the profile?
“My host informs that when I installed wordpress it was not wordpress MU. Could this be the issue? “
No, that is not the issue. BP works in single WP.
But if you want to give your members their own blogs, then you have to go multisite, i.e. create a network.
You should also check out this article, before installing BuddyPress – https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/before-installing/
I’m reading an article on WordPress plugin development. I’m confuse about the concept of hook and event. Could somebody please tell me?
Thanks!
