ParticipantThanks for clearing all that up for me!

Participanti’ve never changed the ID of what blog buddypress runs on, but assuming it talks to wordpress the same way as having it on the root blog (which it should, and if it doesn’t it should be reported as a bug) then all your questions are a yes.
1. Yes, activity stream tracks site-wide activity.
2. yes, one username (it doesn’t modify the way WordPress Multisite runs much…)
3. If you are using the bp-default them, then yes it does, if your using another theme then it wont by default. you will have to modify the theme (refer to bp-default theme for how it’s done their)
4. I’ll leave the languages questions to someone else (i dont mess with doing things with different languages)January 29, 2012 at 6:53 pm #128801In reply to: BuddyPress computability with BPress

Participant== I’m trying to install buddypress on my custom theme ==
Change to Twenty Ten or Twenty Eleven theme then activate BuddyPress then change to bp-default or your custom theme.
If that doesn’t work, it may be that you need to increase memory https://codex.buddypress.org/troubleshooting/blank-pages/
January 29, 2012 at 5:03 pm #128797@mercime
Participant== So if I use the BuddyPress Template Pack I need to modify a number of templates or modify the header.php, footer.php, and sidebar.php and rename them header-buddypress.php, footer-buddypress.php, and sidebar-buddypress.php. ==
You don’t modify header.php, footer.php and sidebar.php. You copy those files and name the copies as header-buddypress.php, footer-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php respectively. You only copy and rename copy of such file/s only if you need it/them. And, only the BP template files transferred to your theme folder in server will use them, i.e. your regular WP theme files won’t use those xxxx-buddypress.php files.
== I think I actually only need to modify sidebar-buddypress.php. Do I leave the name of the file sidebar-buddypress.php? . ==
sidebar-buddypress.php will only affect the sidebar of the BP Template files transferred to your WP theme’s folder in server. If there’s no sidebar-buddypress.php, the BP template files will take on your WP theme’s sidebar.php
== I have also considered creating a child theme using my current theme as the parent theme. Would this be a better way to go then editing template files? ==
If your WP theme is actively maintained/updated by theme developer, and contains info that encourages you to build a child theme for your customizations, then do so. Whether you use your WP theme or create a child theme of your WP theme, you would still need to install and activate the BP Template Pack and go through the BP Compatibility Process.
If you have ascertained that you only need to create header-buddypress.php and/or footer-buddypress.php and or sidebar-buddypress.php in Step 3 of the compatibility process, then good for you. When you need to upgrade BP Template Pack plugin later, you won’t have to change anything with either of 3 xxx=buddypress.php files in your theme folder..

@mercime
Participant== I’m using the Platform theme version 1.4.2 which during installation said was compatible.==
That’s because the theme author tagged the theme “buddypress” which is misleading since the theme may be BP-friendly but it doesn’t contain any BuddyPress templates. You will need to install and activate BP Template Pack plugin and go through the BP Compatibility process to make your WP theme compatible with BuddyPress. https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/

SK
Participant@DJPaul I know you have closed the ticket as won’t fix.
However, I’d invite you to consider this:
I think the functionality that we are after is “conditional” or “nested” fields. i.e. a list of states loading based on country selected.
The data (countries/states/cities/etc) need not necessarily be packaged with BuddyPress….maybe admins can load their own lists via csv etc…what’s important is the BEHAVIOR of the field…loading lists for a sub-field based on the value chosen for a field…
Come to think of it, conditional/nested fields could have many more applications than just addresses.

Participant>> However the index.php file seemed to be a buddypress file
It is the BP Blogs Directory template file. How did it get at the root of your 13th floor theme? I suggest that you get another copy of your 13thfloor theme, and double-check the index.php file which I’m pretty sure won’t be the BP file and re-upload to your theme file in server. This leads to — could you just make sure first that you have 6 BP template folders – activity, blogs, forums, groups, members, register – transferred into your 13thflor theme folder in server? Check the /blogs/ folder and make sure there’s at least an index.php file there. Have to make sure everything’s in order before we proceed.

ParticipantFind bb-config.php file in your server, usually where you will find wp-config.php file
Open it up and double-check database information is correct. Basically, should be the same database info in your wp-config.php file.
If database info is correct, did you enable your Group’s Forum? https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/4/#forums-faqs

Secrets of Safety
MemberMingle hasn’t been updated and seems to be having some problems with conflicts with other plugins it didn’t used to conflict with. Yes, It is nice but if they aren’t updating it, really… what options do you have?
I tried the Symposium plugins, but they are in constant “upgrade” mode and it is very hard to follow. And I might add that testing loading speed, Symposium slows down a site a lot.
If Mingle were updated, it would be great.. I love the way they have everything set up, but there is no album. They have much better privacy options.
I really like the mingle forums and since it is mentioned that I might be able to use it then I think I will try. Although bbpress can be easily set up in multiple different ways. If it’s allowed, here is a tutorial that is really easy to follow for installing the bbpress plugin and setting up multiple forums..
I found it very easy to follow..http://labsecrets.com/2012/01/23/buddypress-and-bbpress-forums-made-easy/

ParticipantViewing source, looks like you’re using Genesis child theme. I believe you need to purchase Genesis Connect plugin to make your Genesis child theme compatible with BuddyPress.

Member@notpoppy – I think this section of the forums is for feedback and suggestions.
You might want to go to another section to admonish people against making suggestions. What’s that all about? Buddypress is a good plugin, agreed and everyone here is expressing that.
However, when a section is set up for “feedback” that’s what they will get.

ParticipantTo find out what css to change, you can examine your web pages with firebug (download) in firefox or developer tools in internet explorer 8 or 9 and google chrome – it’s built in so just press F12. There are similar features in other browsers…

Memberyay, that works.
thank you.
now i only need to figure out how to fix the widgets, but that should be no problem.January 28, 2012 at 10:10 pm #128765aces
Participant`display:none;` does what it says….
Just remove that line and it will come back again…. nothing else will have changed….
Actually going back to re-read your original message, it’s not clear what you want to do and how you expect to do it?
Chris Clayton also suggested an alternative line for your style.css file:
`
div#header { background-image:url(‘This-is-the-path-to-an-image-file.gif’); }
`January 28, 2012 at 10:05 pm #128764nilssvz
Memberit removed the header and the background.
how can i add them again?I’m sorry, I really don’t know anything about css.
January 28, 2012 at 9:53 pm #128763aces
ParticipantThe best way to deal with it is in a child theme! This is the way that buddypress is designed to work so that when buddypress / bp default get upgraded you won’t lose your edits…
Create a subdirectory under themes and create a simple text file called style.css inside the directory. Then add something like the following at the top of style.css:
`/*
Theme Name: nilssvz
Theme URI: http://example.org/themes/nilssvz/
Description: nilssvz theme for BuddyPress.
Version: 1.0
Author: nilssvz
Author URI: http://example.org/
Template: bp-default
Tags: buddypress, two-column, grey, dark
*/`Then put what Chris Clayton suggested immediately below:
`
div#header h1 { display:none; }
`and see what happens when you preview or activate your new child theme…..

ParticipantOpen up 13floor header.php, copy code and post to pastebin.com, click submit button and post the generated URL here. Do the same for your index.php, page.php, single.php and sidebar.php.
