    This was working great for me til today, for some reason it just stopped working – the button to attach a file is there but nothing happens on click. Didn’t see any script errors when I ran it in Google Chrome – help!

    Thanks

    @princehemo10

    It’s really difficult to help as I don’t understand arabic and google translate isn’t much use in this situation.

    It’s also unhelpful that there doesn’t seem to be an official arabic translation of buddypress ( or here or here )….

    ( https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/ )

    Does it work with bp-default theme?

    If it’s the premium theme from http://www.theme-junkie.com/themes/freshlife/ then they might provide support for it on their forum: http://www.theme-junkie.com/forum/

    I had this problem and have finally solved it.

    Here’s what I did:

    1. deactivate all plugins except buddypress
    2. change theme to default
    3. backup your bb-config.php file
    4. delete bb-config.php
    5. backup /public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-forums
    6. rename /public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-forums
    7. download the latest version of Buddypress
    8. upload new version of /public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-forums
    9. upload rest of the latest version buddypress files
    10. go to your dashboard >Buddypress > components >forums click to install group forums and it will create a new bb-config.php file
    11. create a new group – DO NOT SELECT ENABLE DISCUSSION FORUM
    12. save the group
    13. go back into the group and select enable discussion forum
    14. create a new topic for your new forum
    15. If it works – check the other groups.
    16 If the other groups don’t work – de-select enable discussion forum and save – then select discussion forum and save again – see if that helped.
    17. change to your custom theme – double check again. You may need to redo step 16 for some of your groups
    18. reactivate your plugins and check again – you may need to redo step 16

    I know that seems like a lot of steps – and possible you could skip some of them – but that’s the exact process I used and it worked… woot!!

    Good luck

    == when I copied the header.php file over to my new theme’s folder and attempted to edit it in the appearance editor I received this message- “Sorry, that file cannot be edited.” ==
    It’s a known issue – https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/16744

    == I’m wondering if it would just be easier to edit the header.php file from my computer rather than the Buddypress dashboard and reupload every time I make a change? ==
    That’s the way to do it.

    @aces That way you would have to add each page 1 at a time, is there a way to do it automatically. (My Forum’s have thousands of pages so adding them individually is pretty much impossible.)

    Hey, I came up with this solution.
    I wanted to make “Following” the default activity sub_nav if I’m visiting my profile and “Personal” if I’m visiting someone elses’. On /plugins/buddypress/bp-activity/bp-activity-loader.php:
    `
    // Add ‘Activity’ to the main navigation
    $main_nav = array(
    ‘name’ => __( ‘Activity’, ‘buddypress’ ),
    ‘slug’ => $this->slug,
    ‘position’ => 10,
    ‘screen_function’ => ‘bp_activity_screen_my_activity’,
    ‘item_css_id’ => $this->id,
    ‘default_subnav_slug’ => bp_is_my_profile() ? ‘following’ : ‘just-me’
    );

    // Add the subnav items to the activity nav item if we are using a theme that supports this
    $sub_nav[] = array(
    ‘name’ => __( ‘Personal’, ‘buddypress’ ),
    ‘slug’ => ‘just-me’,
    ‘parent_url’ => $activity_link,
    ‘parent_slug’ => $this->slug,
    ‘screen_function’ => ‘bp_activity_screen_my_activity’,
    ‘position’ => bp_is_my_profile() ? 29 : 10
    );
    `
    Then change the ‘position’ => of “Mentions” and “Favorites” for values higher than 29 and lower than 40 (“Friends”)

    Hope it helps ! I’d like some feedback on this

    Notes accumulated on this issue, so far:
    – happens to sites hosted on IIS server – resolved by a) moving Linux server; b) re-uploading BuddyPress plugin folder manually
    – happens when username has space/s between – resolved by removing spaces in username in database and installing restrict username plugin
    – happens to old themes which need to be updated – resolved by changing to bp-default theme or an updated BP child theme or BP-compatible theme
    – happens when one disables extended profiles – resolved by enabling extended profiles

    1) users can edit their own profile link is below the profile tab
    2) post this topic in the followers plugin forum
    3) when you create a user it bypasses the WordPress activation sequence. You will need to create a custom solution. An easy way is to use the BuddyPress notification system and send a site wide message telling all users to change their password.

    Okay I found a way around this. I used the code supplied via one post, the one that said you should place the code in the functions.php file of your theme which would make all new registered users notifications setting turned off. Only problem was then… when I cut the ability for users to updated there profile setting it also allowed them to change the notification settings. Which would allow users to turn them back on.

    So I headed to the BuddyPress plugin files and started searching. Looking for files with the names “Settings” in them I opened them all up and started searching for anything mentioning “Notifications” settings. Here are the two pieces of code that I found in the files and removed them. Went to my test user account, then to settings, and the ability to update/change my “Notifications” settings from their could no longer be seen. Worked… so here are the 2 pieces of code to look for an remove.

    First:
    `// Add Notifications nav item
    $sub_nav[] = array(
    ‘name’ => __( ‘Notifications’, ‘buddypress’ ),
    ‘slug’ => ‘notifications’,
    ‘parent_url’ => $settings_link,
    ‘parent_slug’ => $this->slug,
    ‘screen_function’ => ‘bp_core_screen_notification_settings’,
    ‘position’ => 20,
    ‘user_has_access’ => bp_core_can_edit_settings()
    );`

    Second:
    `/** Notifications *************************************************************/

    function bp_core_screen_notification_settings() {
    global $bp;

    if ( bp_action_variables() ) {
    bp_do_404();
    return;
    }

    if ( isset( $_POST ) ) {
    check_admin_referer(‘bp_settings_notifications’);

    if ( isset( $_POST ) ) {
    foreach ( (array)$_POST as $key => $value ) {
    if ( $meta_key = bp_get_user_meta_key( $key ) )
    bp_update_user_meta( (int)$bp->displayed_user->id, $meta_key, $value );
    }
    }

    bp_core_add_message( __( ‘Changes saved.’, ‘buddypress’ ), ‘success’ );

    do_action( ‘bp_core_notification_settings_after_save’ );
    }

    bp_core_load_template( apply_filters( ‘bp_core_screen_notification_settings’, ‘members/single/settings/notifications’ ) );
    }`

    Hi @nickbwatson Hope you are well. Could you duplicate the Groups functionality? I have a similar requirement. If you can share your solution that will be immensely helpful.

    Many Thanks

    #126535

    Okay, thank you. I’ll do that. I have some more questions:

    1)I wanted to add an ‘Edit Profile’ button to the profile page for the member who is logged in. How do I go about doing that?
    2)Installed BuddyPress Follow, how can I add a follow button to the profile?
    3)Why doesn’t the WordPress password nag work for Buddypress? Is there an alternative

    #126531

    I figured out the CSV Import. I also installed BuddyPress Follow, how do I add a follow button to the profile?

    I’ve done already a single site install which was working well, but after the problem is migrating all data from buddypress, that’s why I post here. THe problem is that in database there are many references to wp_1_ table which referer to the website ID 1. I’ve tried some search and replace in the database but everything was broken. The activity stream and groups content was right but friends relations was all broken and there was lots of issues like this.

    For regular multisite advice, you’re best to post on the WordPress.org multisite forums for expert advice. As far as BuddyPress goes, I’d worry about getting WordPress sorted first, and then seeing what state BuddyPress is in.

    @mercime – hoping you can translate a message I am getting during the Network Setup, I want to make sure I don’t assume that’s it’s not a big deal:

    “Because your install is not new, the sites in your WordPress network must use sub-domains. The main site in a sub-directory install will need to use a modified permalink structure, potentially breaking existing links.”

    The part I’m confused about is the modified permalink structure portion. I’ve enabled “pretty permalinks” – i.e. “mysite.org/title-of-my-blog”. Does this mean the message won’t apply to me, or is it going to make another change to my permalink structure? Can you provide an example of what the URL will look like for other sites/blogs that I add to network?

    Also, regarding the Network Title setting – how does this setting present itself downstream? Meaning, will other users see this value (URLs, etc.) or is it just a backend setting?

    Many thanks!!!

    Thanks everyone for the lively discussion – happy that I’m not the only one suffering with this issue but feel sorry for all of us! I’ve eliminated one problem – I was getting a duplication of a group every time I set up a new one – I wasn’t running the latest php version for BuddyPress requirements on my dedicated server. This issue is now resolved.

    However, I am still having problems with forum creation. The bb-config.php file is in the correct place in the root directory and all settings are also OK. This is a real mystery – I was hoping that the new BuddyPress version uploaded this week would solve the problem – no.

    Yes, the issue was caused by a plugin… tiny mce! I disabled it and now it works.

    Except that the central group forums doesn’t work anymore… instead of it I can see only a wp blank page: http://community.lavocedelladea.it/forums
    the bp settings are all ok!
