    I’m stuck :(

    Here’s my configuration:
    WP 3.2.1.
    BP 1.5.2
    BBP 2.0-rc-2
    Theme custom from blank
    http://www.nadelspiel.com/clubneu/
    (Don’t laugh, besides other things, I am running a flock of lambs ;)

    Before installing BP 1.5.2 everything worked almost hasslefree. After a clean new install of the latest beta version of BP I get 404 errors whenever I try to post activity other than from my main activity page. In other words, when I post from mydomain/activity, it works, when I post e.g. from the activity stream of homepage I get a page not found error with the following page adresses:
    mydomain/activity/reply
    mydomain/activity/post

    Any idea what’s wrong?

    Grateful for any hints,

    greetings from Austria,
    eliZZZa

    @r-a-y @kateM82 what you guys suggested for “favoriting” posts from across a network worked great… but it doenst hold good with bp 1.5 beta 2… i still have the same code in bp-custom.php in the plugins folder… and i still have the same code in single.php… when i mouseover the link it does show me a “post id”… so thats not the problem.. and it does say… domain.com/activity/favorite/POST_ID/xxx …. so what then is the problem!? Could it be that in 1.5 beta 2… u have to assign a “page” for activity… and thats why its not working right?

    I am running into issues getting the activity stream to display on the home page using BP Template Pack with my current existing WordPress theme. Setting the home page to Activity Stream results in a 404 page not found error.

    BP Template Pack appears to be installed successfully, I am able to view other community features such as members and groups. Is there something else I need to do to get it fully activated?

    I have deactivated all plugins except BP and BP Template Pack

    I have set the home page to Activity Stream in Settings > Reading

    The activity stream works fine on the home page with the default BP theme, but not with BP template pack.

    I have re-saved the permalinks page after setting the Reading option.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hello,

    I would like to add a text field in the activity stream.
    Do you have an idea how to do that ?
    I found the different persons who talk about that :
    http://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/forum/topic/add-custom-fields-to-activity-stream/
    http://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/forum/topic/adding-a-second-element-for-posting-with-an-activity/?topic_page=1&num=15

    But I don’t know what to do. I tried some example but nothing work…

    Somebody know ?

    Thank you very much for your help !

    If you think it’s a theme, you could try emptying functions.php to remove any custom code in there?

    #117525

    you can simple put the followung code into your theme function.php without editing core file.

    /*Change the number of activity items to show per page */

    `function my_custom_query_filter( $query_string ) {
    $query_string .= ‘&per_page=11’;
    return $query_string;
    }
    add_filter( ‘bp_dtheme_ajax_querystring’, ‘my_custom_query_filter’ );`

    worked for me

    I decided to jump into 1.5 and see what popped up on my site. Here are some of the things that didn’t work out of the box (Using Current WP and latest BP):

    Plugins:

    Bp-Like – Failed. via @hempsworth (will be updated soon according to him)

    Activity-Stream-Bump-to-top failed. via @nuprn1 (Currently Rich is not updating this, but I hope somebody does for 1.5 as this is a most useful plugin)

    External blog failed. via @bowromir

    The most unexpected thing for me was that BuddyPress asked me to “initialize it” and I had to walk through all of the steps as if it were a new/fresh buddypress install not an updgrade…. it didn’t wipe my databases, but I was afraid that it had… is this expected behavior?

    Here is some additional information — I don’t really think that it will make much difference — but if so, awesome.

    Side note, I did edit my theme’s function.php to hard code in the address of http://totallymi.com but it did not change the fact that the BP activity stream is redirecting to the homepage vs the appropriate member’s stream.

    Thanks!

    Hi

    let me first explain the situation as good as possible. I have a site up and running (http://www.slople.com/) that’s built be me in php, but not in wp/bp. I installed wordpress and buddypress in a subdirectory to play around and it’s working.

    Now I need several things in the next few days I think I can not achieve alone. I have some ideas how to solve it, but since I am in no way an expert in wp/bp, I’d need your help.

    Things to solve:

    1. On each slople (example: http://www.slople.com/index.php?slopeId=13644&sortId=0) people should be able to discuss/share images/share movies. I thought of creating a group programatically for each slope (about 10’000 at the moment!) and displaying the activity stream of each group right below the content you can see above. Remember, those pages in the root are NO wp or bp-pages! That bp-section below the existing content should first show the group-members, then the comment-form and then the activity stream. I’d like to display the login-form in a separate box on the right (and don’t redirect them to the standard wp-login when someone enters a wrong user/password)
    2. This should be most easy and I may be able to achieve this myself ;) Make a custom menu on top of the page, where users can navigate to the current non-wp/bp-page (something like “home”) and of course have access to the buddypress-features (not all, I don’t want users to create blogs etc.)

    So please please please, if someone can help, get in contact with me ASAP! mail@slople.com or reply here.
    Forum-admins: If this is the wrong place to post, please move or tell me where to post. Thanks!

    I am facing a strange problem. I have latest BP 1.2.9 with WP 3.2 along with Events Manager and One Quick Post plugin and more. I am working with default BP theme and editing that in the child theme.

    Problem is that the links of Events manager and one quick post on the admin bar takes me to homepage.

    Following are other plugins installed:

    Networks for wordpress
    Akismet
    Anflex GA – Google Analytics for WordPress
    Multisite User Management
    BP Posts on profile
    BP Profile Search
    BP Show Friends
    BuddyPress Docs
    BuddyPress Group Email Subscription
    BuddyPress Private Community
    Events Manager
    Private BuddyPress (Inactive)
    Personal welcome (Inactive)
    one Quick Post (Inactive)
    Inactivity Auto Sign Out Plugin (Inactive)
    Add All Nav Links to BP Adminbar (Inactive)
    AG Custom Admin (Inactive)
    BM Custom Login (Inactive)
    BP-Registration-Options (Inactive)

    is anyone facing the same problem. I know that in Events Manager Forum on wordpress.org some have faced the same problem. see the following link http://wordpress.org/support/topic/none-of-the-member-links-are-working?replies=17.

    I have been facing this problem even on the earlier releases of WP and BP. Please help.

    create…
    -Welcome page with information about your profile, a blog in the side bar, two scrollable boxes that have the last updates on things.
    -a bar at the bottom that have icons to other websites I *may* make
    -a bar at the top with customizable categories not just “home”, “activity”, etc.
    -I want two different types of members, one with more power than others
    -I want the lower status ones to be able to submit a form with information directly to the ones with the higher status

    Sorry if these answers were obvious :/

    To be a more concise with the requirement.

    Allow members of a group to create posts within that group.
    ________________

    > Add new Post to Group (including media pop-up, RTE, taxonomy relation)
    > Edit existing Post in Group (including media pop-up, RTE, taxonomy relation)
    > Browse my Group Posts
    > Integrating the creating of new posts and commenting of posts within a group into buddypress components such as activity feed, plug-ins such as subscribe to group by email, ect…ect…
    ________________

    The above work is what I’m scared of ,,,,,, using custom taxonomy you associate posts to a group with a few lines of code…..

    add to….. groups / single / forum.php

    //
    global $bp;
    $group_id = $bp->groups->current_group->id;
    $group = groups_get_group( array( ‘group_id’ => $group_id ) );
    $group_slug = $group -> slug;

    $args=array(
    ‘group_terms’ => $group_slug,
    ‘post_type’ => ‘nuggets’,
    ‘post_status’ => ‘publish’,
    ‘posts_per_page’ => -1,
    ‘caller_get_posts’=> 1
    );
    query_posts( $args );

    :) couple of old classic links there

    @andrewbuzz the table aspect for layout has been mentioned, but I really need to just labour a point, tables for layout are absolutely not the way to markup pages, it’s taken a few years to get everyone on board with this but nowadays you wil no one creating layouts this way. I suspect that you have ‘designed’ your layout in PS? and then have used a tool such as DW? to construct a layout.

    I would urge you to stop and reconsider before you go too much further, table layouts are highly inflexible, next to impossible to re-factor (one of the main points with CSS-P ) not search engine friendly and a whole heap of other reasons.

    Are you preparing this layout for a client or is this an existing layout the client has come to you with?

    I would like to be able to customize what my clients BuddyPress profile area looks like, as well as the activity feed, group page, and members pages. I know some about CSS, but have had little luck trying to code my site correctly. I want my profile page to look like this: http://i52.tinypic.com/2lz50y.png
    However, It looks like this: http://www.andrewsbuzz.com/members/admin/

    If anyone has any ideas on how I can fix this, or if you know how to fix this, please post here, or preferably email me at: emilymariearellano@yahoo.com

    Derived from the above link, I use the following in a bp-custom.php file to exclude users that are not logged in from seeing the activity or members areas.

    function sh_walled_garden()
    {
    global $bp;

    if( bp_is_register_page() || bp_is_activation_page() || bp_is_page( BP_FORUMS_SLUG ) || bp_is_page( BP_GROUPS_SLUG ) )
    return;

    if( ! bp_is_blog_page() && ! is_user_logged_in() )
    bp_core_redirect( $bp->root_domain .'/'. BP_REGISTER_SLUG );
    }
    add_action( 'get_header', 'sh_walled_garden' );

    In bp-custom.php the above needs to be placed in a plain text file with “ at the end of the file….

    I’m puzzling what the point of the custom pages are in 1.3 or whether something has changed I’m unaware of.

    I had a page set up for directory forums – labeled ‘all group forums’ – this I set with a parent ‘groups’ which was a parent of a page called ‘community’ more a test than anything. This worked fine and /community/groups/all-groups-forums/ resolved to the forums directory just fine… until today when hitting the link just produces a 404.

    and I can set ‘Activity’, and ‘Groups’ directories as a child page of another and they are found quite happily!

    I want to create a NEW tab in GROUPS bar to direct user’s to group activity page. I’ve looked for an answer but all of them create a SUBNAV item, or they create a NEW item in PROFILE page.

    I followed this tutorial to make a group front page: http://bp-tricks.com/featured/creating-a-custom-front-page-for-your-buddypress-groups/

    This is a group sample page in my site http://m.augemundial.com/groups/acme/
    I have: Articulo | Usuarios (3)
    I want: Articulo | [Activity]* | Usuarios (3)

    Anyone please kindly help me? thank you!

    It’s late in the day (in my part of the world) so maybe my eyes are just tired, but I’m trying to apply a style to a single members page however BP seems to be lacking a global tag for a members page. The body class changes depending on which content tab is selected (i.e. Activity | Profile | Friends | Groups | Blogs | Messages | Followers | Following | Settings).

    I added the class name ”profile-single” within ’members/single/home.php’ which solves my problem for core BP pages ( i.e. Activity | Profile | Friends | Groups | Blogs ) but not for the pages/tabs generated by plugins.

    Initially I thought I could just modify the ’members/single/plugins.php’, but that doesn’t change the generated code, otherwise I’ve been trying to find the hook ’bp_before_member_plugin_template’ and create a modified version of this in my bp-custom.php.

    Any suggestions? Also whereabouts are the ’bp_before’ and ’bp_after’ hooks defined? I remember spotting them some while ago, but can’t remember where.

    Update: I can see in the members/single/followers.php file within the follow plugin, that it duplicates the markup of the member/single/home.php, so it looks like there is no single ‘header’ tag which would work across all tabbed pages. So therefore I am looking for a hook where I can add a class to, but I’m not entirely clear how that’s going to work in practice.

    I’ll keep looking, but as ever I’d appreciate any suggestions.

    == I think i have the activity in between the sidebars and looking OK. ==

    Confirming that it’s looking good :-)

    == I just have the admin bar width issue to figure out ==

    The adminbar in that permalink page is styled like so in bp-default adminbar.css
    ` body#bp-default.activity-permalink #wp-admin-bar .padder {
    min-width: 960px;
    max-width: 960px;
    }`
    I see you have a fixed width of 1000px for your site. So if you have custom.css listed after the @import of adminbar.css, just add this
    ` body#bp-default.activity-permalink #wp-admin-bar .padder {
    min-width: 1000px;
    max-width: 1000px;
    }`
    but if you use stylesheet listed before @import of adminbar.css, you’d have to add `!important` to your min-width and max-width

    You should also correct the width of the site when in permalink view
    ` body.activity-permalink {
    min-width: 960px;
    max-width: 960px;
    }`
    change to 1000px

    Create a file called bp-custom.php – it will go in your plugins directory.

    Put this code in it:

    function visitor_intercept(){
    global $bp_unfiltered_uri;

    if ( !is_user_logged_in() ) {
    if ( ($bp_unfiltered_uri[0] == BP_MEMBERS_SLUG) || ($bp_unfiltered_uri[0] == BP_ACTIVITY_SLUG) ) {
    bp_core_redirect( get_option('siteurl')."/some-page" );
    }
    }
    }
    add_action( 'wp', 'visitor_intercept', 3 );

    Change “same-page” to where ever you want to send them or remove to send them to front page.
    Note: this may not work if you are using BP 1.3

    Hello all,

    I have a rather simple problem that does not seem to have a simple solution. I want to make the user names on the activity page in my theme links to the user’s profile (just like their avatar) but the entire meta section of an activity post seems to be contained in “bp_activity_action()” which I can’t make heads or tails of. If anyone can help me out or provide a suggestion I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

    Hi there,
    First of all thanks for taking your time in reading my question and thanks in advance for providing any clues and suggestions. I’m new to WordPress and Buddypress but have worked a couple of years before using other frameworks/blog solutions like Serendipity (S9y).
    Now, I’ve installed WordPress with Buddypress in my own server (I’m setting up a webpage for an off-road enthusiasts club) using the default theme (BuddyPress Default 1.2.7 by BuddyPress.org).

    I’ve been searching for some days now for a way to customize (rearrange and remove) some of the Subnav elements (the tabs on the bottom-line of the header image that reads ” Home – Activity – Members – Groups – Forums – Photo – Video”) but haven’t found something specific yet. There are lot of posts everywhere (with lots of comments) but they all end up with no specific answer or solution.
    Does anybody knows the way to customize or rearrange the subnav?
    Thanks!

    Terrible advice in this thread from people recommending edits to core bp files — any changes to them will be lost next time you upgrade Buddypress. Never edit core. Use the custom query filter instead.

    A really frustrating problem arose this afternoon that I guess must have arisen when I was disabling a plugin. Basically if I click on a blog post (or even just enter its URL in the browser window) it redirects to the home page. The same thing happens whether the home page is a blog listing or activity listing.

    My config is pretty standard WP3.12 BP 1.28, all the usual plugins. I’m an experienced WP developer so I know the score. I disabled all plugins, then reverted the site back to TwentyTen to then start adding the various bespoke elements back again. The permalinks are fine with TwentyTen, but as soon as I reinstall the BP default theme (which is a parent of my custom theme) the problem resurfaces. When I change permalink settings in admin back to the default (i.e. ugly) format, then the problem is resolved and clicking on an index blog entry takes me through to the single.php page.

    For clarification I am only running a single .htaccess file which is in the root of my site, WP is installed in the root also and there are no other applications on this domain. I can’t give you a link to the site, because the domain is hidden behind a redirect (which goes back to our main site), as we get ready to make this new site live.

    I have reloaded a fresh install of Buddypress, with a fresh BP default, but the problem persists, which means it must be an error in the database. I’ve also played around with my .htaccess file, removing and then restarting with a fresh copy, and this is the same .htaccess file that I’m using on 5 other WP sites that I run.

    Looking into the DB I can see that the redirects column in wp-options is pretty large and I would imagine this is where the problem stems from, but I’m not comfortable manually editing this table.

    Any thoughts, experiences or suggestions? My next step is to reinstall on a fresh DB, then try and recover the tables containing posts and other non-config data, which will obviously be a PITA.
