    I just want to agree on the confusion between user- and display names. I don’t think this will ever be crystal clear to a regular user. Like if I was to @ myself on testbp.org – not knowing about the difference between user- and displaynames – and a totally different name showed up in the message-textfield, I would probably get confused and think something like:

    – Is this notification being sent to the intended user?

    – Should I rename @nameA to @nameB because @nameB is the name I see in the profile? (When in fact the right answer is @nameA)

    – This is too confusing to continue (fallout).

    Just trying to imagine how users would react on this feature. Not saying this feature is bad, but I’ve said from the beginning that it should be more user friendly and I probably don’t need to say that the user- and displaynames confusion are bugging a whole lot of users.

    having an “auto-complete”-functionality based on both – username and display name – would be much better than remembering and using “@username” all the time.

    So even non-techie-users would be able to intuitively understand how the website works.

    I’ve been making quite a few posts lately, but I really want to get my site going.

    Anyway,

    I noticed on any users “Activity Page” there are filters to filter the feed. However, 2 plugins that I have deleted are still appearing as filters (with no icons beside them).

    Obviously the icons are missing because I’ve removed the plugins.

    How do I remove the filters?

    The 2 plugins that are appearing are:

    bp-events (it displays it as Events)

    and the bp-skeleton-component (displays as Example)

    I just installed the skeleton component to see what I had to work with, but now I want to get rid of all the old info on my site.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks

    I agree with David about how a user will see the @username and might delete the text.

    True, but I think adding an @mentions page on the displayed-user’s profile would help remedy users who like the wire.

    You could make this page viewable if you’re logged in only.

    One thing I don’t like about Twitter is I have to go to search.twitter.com to view @mentions of another user.

    Excellent point. Not all is lost but I will take this opportunity to provide some feedback to @jjj and @apeatling re 1.2 in it’s current state

    1. I get the use of the Twitter @ metaphor and adding “mentions” to the filters. Cool. BUT, it introduces a potential UI snag for users. Throughout 1.2 you make nice use of Display Name which users will become accustomed to and identify with. Now, you are identifying users by their user name as well (mixing metaphors, so to speak) as in ->

    John Doe

    and

    @jdoe

    Given people’s tendencies to use whacky usernames, thee is a big risk of confusion when both start popping up around the site. Not sure what the solution is but I think it’s not a trivial point, imho.

    2. Now that the wire has disappeared and along comes the concept of “Send Public Message” (I get it) let’s look at what vehicle we’re making use of and what it may mean to users. As it currently stands in 1.2, to “Send Public Message” you click that button on someone’s profile and you are taken to your own Status Update field with an @username filled in.

    a. the cursor is highlighted just before the @username not after (don’t forget to include a space) – this will only cause people to write the pubic message and push the @username to the end of the message. clunky

    b. You’ll probably need to include a @mentions on each person’s profile page otherwise, you’ll never be able to easily see the public message to @username you just wrote. The key point being, you want this to show up on THEIR profile.

    c. Probably worth considering including a notification to @username of said public message via email (make optional)

    d. Q: Will these @’s be co-mingled in your own status updates and, thus create confusion. Maybe that doesn’t matter and i am overthinking it.On the activity stream, it says John Doe posted an update, when he really sent @username a public message. In Twitter when @ leads a message as 1st character, it has different context than everywhere else in the Tweet. Perhaps -> John Doe sent @username a public message ? or something.

    I know I am getting fine grained here but theses (excellent) feature adds need to be over the top intuitive when introduced or they will breed unintended usages.

    bbimg My attempt at photos…

    This is my first post in any sort of WordPress related project, and with me using it so much I finally wanted to start giving back. I have a few plugins and Ideas that I have been working on that I think I’ll just give away instead of hiding them away on whatever servers I put them on. I am starting to do a lot more work with elements that I cant find already made so I have to make them, but then I forget that someone else may need that same thing.

    With that, I am the webmaster of a small(3,000 users) site that is a social network for models and those in the modeling agency. Right now its totally free as we are building a userbase. Soon that will change as well as the engine we are running on. It is old, slow, I didn’t make it, and wont scale so I have been searching for a replacement and I was going to use JoomSocial, but I decided against it as I would rather foster this project.

    At the modeling website there are thousands upon thousands of images as that is the users primary resource and reason for being online. So I have decided to work on a plugin to handle the images and albums. I have written a outline in my project notebook, but would love some feedback. My plan is to update this thread as I progress.. I have a week until next semester so that should be plenty of time to get a beta out..

    Some of this is in coding format, but no real lines of code yet..

    HERE WE GO!!

    • First the user clicks add photos, a page loads with a single field and a MORE button.
    • once all photos are selected the user POSTS data to the same page.

      (note) More AJAX’y stuff could go on here, but I’m keeping it simple at first..

    • checks that file is image type, makes all lowercase, renames jpeg to jpg.
    • all files converted to jpg(or whatever file type)
    • Checks if height > width, then checks larger value against max_width/max_height.
    • Resizes with correct ratio.
    • sets image quality
    • Generates filename from userID and photokey such as 1234_15.jpg
    • Photo uploaded to image directory

    It keeps the data as session data and moves to creating a thumbnail

    • Admin sets weather to resize, crop, or scale images. Does so to set options
    • Thumbnail uploaded to thumbnail directory (SAME FILE NAME)

    Then comes what we are doing to the database.. I had TONS and TONS of ideas for this, and was trying to avoid creating MORE tables for each user, if they have a blog they already have 8!! So what I have done is added 4 fields to Usermeta, and created two sitewide tables called images and albums.

      Usermeta

    • Photokey – key that a user adds to each time a image is uploaded. No duplicate image names in a database or directory.
    • Albumkey – Same thing.
    • Albums – Names of albums user has created, this is to relive querys to other tables as usermeta is loaded automatically.
    • Tagged – This is ALL PHOTOS the user is tagged in, returns an array

    The larger of the two tables is Images, it holds all the data for each image in the directory.

    • Key
    • image name – I used 1234_15.jpg earlier.. extension could be left off..
    • user – this is so wp doesnt have to parse the image name.
    • active – When a user elects to delete an image it is first switched to inactive, this gives the user time to “un-delete” a file, while also allowing an administrator to remove all files in a single action reducing storage size and server load. I plan on doing this during lower traffic hours as a cron job.
    • albums – this is to reduce query load when someone wants to display the name of the album a image is in, and allows direct targeting of the album table.
    • date – timestamp when uploaded.
    • Caption
    • Comments – my plan for now is a hack job of a very long array.. I dont think anyone will max out a data field for a image with too many comments..
    • Tags – userid’s of those tagged.

    Then the Albums table:

    • key
    • Album name – userid_albumkey
    • userid – who made the album
    • Title
    • Caption
    • Comments
    • Date
    • active
    • List of image names in this album. Returns an array.

    WHEEEEW!!

    how to call it:

    • get_album(“id”, maxdisplay, number of tags, number of comments,); returns markup
    • get_img(“name”, options);
    • get_thumb(“name”);
    • get_img_data(“name”, options); if left blank all data is loaded as img_id, img_caption, etc..
    • get_tagged_img(); returns a list of all images person has been tagged in.
    • get_album_info(); same as img, useful if say you just wanted the names for a carousel or slider..

    Of course tagging would call an event or whatever BB uses for its “wire” I havent learned enough of that code yet but Its in the works.

    a user can un-tag themselves from any image, and it would remove it from the image database as well as the meta data. It would work the same when deleted..

    What do you guys think? What should I kill immediately, or what should I add? I will have a TON of configurable options for admins, but didnt want to post all that.

    Well thats it for now I guess, I’ll start coding the meat of it tomorrow..

    -Dennis..

    I have a BuddyPress install that I recently upgraded to the new “integrated” bbPress. However, we have thousands of forum topics from the older style of integration. Those forum topics all contain some html markup because bbPress presumably included basic markup such as paragraph tags and others.

    I’ve only done the upgrade on a test version of our site, but it looks like BuddyPress’ integrated bbPress is escaping the html and outputting it to the screen so that instead of seeing:

    “my forum post”

    users will see:

    “<p>my forum post</p>”

    Is there some way to enable simple html tags in BuddyPress’ integrated forums? If not, does anyone know a simple way to at least strip out all the html from the previous posts so it doesn’t look this bad?

    Thanks…

    Ok, I was not thinking right. What is missing is the “clear” link on the new status. It is showing “Status Display” when it should be showing “editable display” in the class code. Anyone wanna give a crack at why that would be?

    I was thinking that it would be because it is not seeing the user as logged in, but of course it is…it posts to the correct users wire…

    Hi JJJ – just had a mosey around the site back end – your avatar image shows in the WPMU users list, but not on the BP user list (e.g. if I go to “make friends” your user name is there, but not your avatar, same if I go to the members list from the main menu buttons below the buddy bar. Similarly, on the BP themed home page, your avatar doesn’t reveal in the site-wide activity in the recent activity (middle) column.

    Will run the WPMU upgrade shortly – was waiting for you to finish trying before I did that.

    Posts in WPMU blogging have a similar issue with images – example – using the site default blog, an image uploads fine but doesn’t display in media manager or in the post preview (both edit page and save-draft-&-preview.

    I still keep coming back to that path name ” /blogs.dir/ ” I am convinced (without rational reason) that the period in that name is the issue. If upgrading to 2.8.5.1 doesn’t fix it, I’ll have a go at changing that folder name to a standard name type and see if that assists, then post back here.

    It’ll be a couple of hours thouggh as I have some offline urgent jobs that are long overdue.

    Many thanks for investigating

    We just launched http://fashionisima.es a fashion comunity in spanish language. It displays first the main blog and then you can get into the community http://fashionisima.es/comunidad

    We are waiting for the users to get used to the main functionalities of the community and then we will setup the forum and a Digg-like page for voting all the posts in the network.

    We got almost 200 users in first 2 weeks and we have 4500 unique visitors every day.

    The theme mixes the standard Buddypress theme with Arthemia http://michaelhutagalung.com/arthemia/

    Hope you like it

    Hey,

    on this site I’m working on, groups represent businesses, who can set their location. Also, blog posts can be tagged with coordinates as well, so on groups and blogs directory pages I’m displaying a map where all the groups and latest blog posts are mapped. This works perfectly.

    Now, I’ve written a few functions that enables users to update their current location, which will be shown on the members directory page. The code I’ve written is all correct, but the bp_has_site_members loop doesn’t behave like I would expect it to.

    On the site I have 2 test users installed. Only one of them has a location attached to him. So, whatever I set type to (e.g. active or random) in bp_has_site_members, the way I expect it to behave is to always display 1 user, cause I set both max and per_page to 1000.

    That doesn’t happen though. When I set type to random (which I intend to do when we go live) I don’t see any user. When I set it to active, my test user with location attached shows up though. To me this seems strange. Is this the way bp_has_site_members is supposed to work?

    Thanks for your help.

    Vivanista.com was a redesign project. Their first website was a custom-built application using Ruby on Rails and I opted to move them to BuddyPress as well as implement at redesign.

    http://www.vivanista.com

    There are still some minor fixes and changes being made to the website but here are the features:

    1. Classifieds (powered by deep integration with BBPress)

    Uses BBPress Forums and Topics in a manner similar to Craigslist

    2. Boutiques (e-commerce on WordPress MU)

    Renamed ‘Blogs’ in the language definition to become ‘Boutiques’ which allow users to create online stores (similar to Etsy) and sell boutique products to other members. Boutique creation is not available to any member and must contact Vivanista to sign up.

    3. Facebook Connect via plugin

    A good amount of the site’s audience is already on Facebook so this plugin was essential to making signup as painless as possible.

    4. Clubs via BuddyPress Groups

    More language/label changes

    5. Invite Friends

    Existing plugins for inviting friends are extremely lacking. Created my own which is still in its infancy but will be developed further and released as a plugin.

    6. Content Management

    I tried to make the management of content via pages and posts as easy as possible for the content creators and Vivanista staff. I kept custom fields to a minimum and instead of trying to mess with complex thumbnail generation, I’ve opted for simple CSS styling of the first image in a post to display thumbnails.

    Some more basic info: it is still running on a pre-1.1+ theme so it will need to be changed to work with the new parent-child theme framework.

    I’m writing up some case studies based on this project and the experience of working with WordPress MU, BuddyPress and all of the integrations that were necessary to provide the client with the features they desired. There are quite a few pain points I’ve encountered and either developed solutions for or devised workarounds that I will detail further. I will post a link to the case studies once they are complete.

    Hey all,

    So my last project died (read: was killed), and the reincarnation of it, at the request of the powers that be, needs to have some kind of Ted.com like video page.

    If course creating a plugin to do this would be wonderful, but I don’t have the time or skills. Integration of PHPMotion would be lovely, but it seems that with V3 no one has had any success (or seems to think it’s worth while).

    So, the solution that seems simplest to me:

    Users can already upload videos via the media library or in a post. Is there a way to create a page (template or included code) that will display those videos. I don’t need (or really want) the posts, the title would be nice, but whatever. Kind of a site-wide video feed?

    Thoughts?

    Thanks for the continuing awesomeness everyone,

    ~ Aaron

    update I deactivated all my plugins and then only activated buddypress and it seemed to get rid of the ads code, but still displayed site wide activity for each member. so it was a plugin issue, one that I was using to place ads into the posts and pages. Not crucial but would be nice to have eventually working so users can put in their own code without tweaking the template. one last thing that is a different topic I also upgraded bpPicture Album to the new version thinking it would improve my problem but am getting this error when i activated it and on the album page.Warning: call_user_func_array() [function.call-user-func-array]: First argument is expected to be a valid callback, '' was given in /home/content/12/4455612/html/wp-includes/plugin.php on line 414 I’ll ask the creater of the plugin too.

    Thanks for the support

    This works!

    $array = $wpdb->get_var("SELECT meta FROM $wpdb->signups");

    $my_vars = unserialize($array);

    $fullname = $my_vars[field_1];

    echo $fullname;

    I know it’s basically DJPaul’s solution, twenty posts back, but minus the apostrophes.

    So now I know how to get the fullname, but still not how to get the fullname of the user that is activating = has the activation key?

    Why doesn’t this work then?:

    function synchro_wp_usermeta($key) {
    global $bp, $wpdb;

    $array = $wpdb->get_var("SELECT meta FROM $wpdb->signups WHERE activation_key = %s", $key);

    $my_vars = unserialize($array);

    $fullname = $my_vars[field_1];

    $space = strpos( $fullname, ' ' );

    if ( false === $space ) {
    $firstname = $fullname;
    $lastname = '';
    } else {
    $firstname = substr( $fullname, 0, $space );
    $lastname = trim( substr( $fullname, $space, strlen($fullname) ) );
    }

    update_usermeta( $bp->loggedin_user->id, 'nickname', $fullname );
    update_usermeta( $bp->loggedin_user->id, 'first_name', $firstname );
    update_usermeta( $bp->loggedin_user->id, 'last_name', $lastname );

    $wpdb->query( $wpdb->prepare( "UPDATE {$wpdb->users} SET display_name = %s WHERE ID = %d", $fullname, $bp->loggedin_user->id ) );
    $wpdb->query( $wpdb->prepare( "UPDATE {$wpdb->users} SET user_url = %s WHERE ID = %d", bp_core_get_user_domain( $bp->loggedin_user->id ), $bp->loggedin_user->id ) );
    }
    add_action( 'wpmu_activate_user', 'synchro_wp_usermeta', 10, 1);

    The thing is that bbPress doesn’t know that the user “nbsmrt” has BP Name “murat”.

    UPDATE: Scratch that – your display names should actually be working, and in fact I see that they are for users other than “nbsmrt”. The bit I put below is necessary if you want the author link to go back to their BP profile instead of the bbPress profile page.

    I wanted the name to be consistent everywhere, so I have a bit of common code that displays the user’s details in forum posts, blog comments, etc. Note that it requires deep integration because I am accessing BP variables inside bbPress.

    For example, here is what I do in the forum…

    First, in post.php I get the author’s details like so:

    $author_id = get_post_author_id( $post_id );
    $author = get_userdata( $author_id );
    $author_loginname = $author->user_login;
    $author_displayname = get_post_author();

    Then I call a function to display the user link, avatar and other things. Part of this function does the following:

    <?php
    $author_url = _profile_url( $author_loginname );
    ?>

    <div class="username">
    <a href="<?php echo $author_url ?>"><?php echo $author_displayname ?></a>
    </div>

    And here is the code for the _profile_url() function:

    function _profile_url( $login_name=0 ) {
    global $bp;

    /* if no login name is specified, use logged in user */
    if ($login_name) {
    $url = $bp->root_domain . '/members/' . $login_name . '/profile';
    } else {
    $url = $bp->loggedin_user->domain . 'profile';
    }

    return $url;
    }

    So the user’s BP Name is always used, and it always links to their BP profile.

    My one concern about all this is that get_userdata() does a SQL query, adding one query for each author in a topic thread.

    Forgive me if this has been asked before I can’t find any relevant posts:

    Basically what I want to achieve is to move the functionality of elements from the secondary nav items of the buddybar, specifically Dashboard, New Post, Manage Posts, Manage Comments:

    And have them display for a Logged in User when they visit their own ‘My Blogs’ page in their profile page.

    So then I can remove/ hide the buddybar, direct new users to their profile page from where they can click the link to add a new post and access their blog admin.

    I want to remove the buddybar for integration/ design purposes and to me it seems most logical that a user would be able to maintain their blog from within buddypress having navigated to ‘My Blog’. (I will limit each user to one blog)

    First off, I do sympathize with your frustration on finding an acceptable set of solutions to your questions. Without writing the code for you, it is difficult to point you in the proper direction. There have been a number of options presented, that while being a compromise to your ultimate, desired solution, could produce satisfactory results.

    Isn’t the whole point of Buddypress to turn the WordPress base into something more user-centric?

    Yes and no. As I already said two posts above:

    WPMU is not designed as a user-centric platform. It is blog-centric. BuddyPress puts the focus on the user.

    But, BuddyPress is still a layer that rests on top of WPMU, not the other way around. BP relies heavily on certain WPMU functions to handle much of the user registration process. And WPMU requires that the username field be populated (I realize that you know that).

    This thread is NOT about the username issue.

    I understand that. But what I quoted from your past post was about the username field and that is what I specifically answered in my last post.

    This particular thread is entitled “How to use full name, first name + last name“. Burt already provided an answer to this question above via this thread where he shows you how to do exactly this in code.

    I’ve understood all along in the various threads that you’ve started on this range of related topics that you want another option, some other way to insert your desired datum into the user_login field, or use newly created fields to allow registering users to enter their firstname and lastname, or that you want a way for users to enter their email for login, or a way to use BP’s xprofile table to display fname and lname in various ways and places, or a way to rearrange fields on the registration form, and that you hate WPMU’s concept of username and want a different option. I get all of this.

    Others (including myself) have tried to be as helpful as possible in each of those threads, often rehashing the same answers. I don’t say this to be mean; I say this because we’ve tried to explain in multiple ways and multiple times that what you are after is not possible at this time without hacking the core (in some cases) or writing your own custom plugin(s).

    https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2926

    How does Buddypress handle first name + last name?

    It does and it doesn’t. There are no firstname and lastname fields in BuddyPress unless you create them as Mike Pratt explained above. BuddyPress has its own mandatory registration field that by default is called “Full Name”. Look in the BuddyPress submenu group in WPMU’s backend. Go to “BuddyPress > General Settings > Full Name field name”

    Now, there is a function in bp-xprofile-filters.php called xprofile_sync_wp_profile() that will take the datum from the “Full Name” field and split it into a pseudo firstname and lastname and then insert that as meta data into the wp_usermeta table, but it can only do that if a user actually edits their fullname field to include a more than one-word name. So if a user does not edit that field, there will not be any fname/lname wp_usermeta entries for that user.

    Buddypress puts a default first x-profile field Name on the registration form; is it possible to replace that with separate first name + last name fields?

    You can change the “Full Name” field name to whatever you want but you cannot remove that field from the registration page nor edit it to be something other than a single textbox field–at least not without hacking the core. Look under the “Basic” field grouping in “BuddyPress > Profile Field Setup” to see what I mean.

    Or is there already a native solution for first name + last name in WPMU that Buddypress could tap into? (Nicola Greco: ‘… you could replace it with the wp built-in name & last name, or use xprofile fields fot that …”)

    In this post above, I explained that if you want to go this route, you’ll need to pull data from two records in wp_usermeta to extract the firstname, lastname combination. If you do not feel comfortable coding this yourself, you could hire a coder to write a simple function to do just that. But be aware, as I explained above, it is possible that not every user will have firstname and lastname meta date.

    From your OP:

    Default Buddypress is fine for teens/tweens who want to use their anonymous username, but it’s not suitable for a more grown-up business network, for example.

    BuddyPress seems perfectly acceptable for business users. There are many professional, adult-based sites that are successfully attracting users to their BP sites. Mike Pratt’s site is a great example, for one.

    I’ve been using my full name on this site from day one. It did not bother me that I had to use a single username when registering because I knew I had the option to fill out my full name for display purposes later. It also allowed me to brand BuddyPress.org with my unique name, creating a useful URI in the process.

    In fact, the single username approach is what many sites use to allow users to brand themselves. Twitter, youtube, FriendFeed, Delicious, Digg, LinkedIn, and many more all require a unique, single-word username. Of course, some of these then allow you to (or even require) that you use an email for subsequent logins. This is in BP’s future as well.

    In the not too distant future, there may be an option to allow users to sign on with their email address via OpenID or another protocol. See the BuddyPress Roadmap and read about the Open Stack.

    But for now, your options are limited and if you want to change things you must code your own custom solution or hack the core.

    There is not much more we can do, but as I said in my last post, if the username concept bothers you so much, you’ll have to go to the WPMU forums and see what solutions might be in the works–if any.

    How would I go about separating the activity stream data, or at least allowing my users to choose which data they want to see?

    Meaning, I don’t care that user ‘x’ updated their profile etc… Maybe some users would care, but I don’t.

    As the admin, I am trying to picture what the activity stream is going to look like with potentially thousands of users at once. The idea of having my activity stream filled up with extranious ‘junk’ like profile updates, is only going to ruin the concept of the activity stream.

    Imagine if myspace did that, man, we would almost never see anything worth while in the stream.

    In my ‘perfect’ scenario, the admin, me would choose the ‘default’ information shown in the stream, and then allow other users to either add/delete stream updates such as forum posts, user updates, etc…

    Or even separating the activity stream out into individual parts and displaying them separately.

    I’d personally like to see 3 separate streams,

    1. blog updates

    2. forum posts

    3. group posts

    I”m sure others would prefer different stuff than myself, hence the question of how to manage what is shown.

    I use it as substitute for default BP members widget. Mainly because without any code changes:

    1. I can choose avatars size in px

    2. Simple link avatars to blogs, their websites, member pages

    3. There is possibility to chooce Sorting order (by posts number, registration date, login name, name display, user id…)

    4. You can hide users by inserting their id

    5. Choose to show users from selected blogs

    6. Group by blogs

    7. there are more features

    I think it’s quite useful for those who don’t have much experience with loop and need simple customization widget.

    Thanks bforchhammer to here is Changeset 118704 with possibility link avatars to bp member page.

    We’re just about finished creating a new Twitter plugin designed especially for Buddypress. Here’s a list of features – and we’ll update this thread with a URL for more info when we release the plugin in the next couple of days:

    – Adds a new Settings page for people to configure their Twitter ID and psw.

    – Adds options to selectively tweet posts (in the Add New post screen for blogs – if the blogs component is enabled in BP )

    – Adds a screen where logged-in users can send tweets from within BP if they’ve configured their Twitter login details.

    – Adds all new tweets sent from within BP to the Activity page (but not for tweeted posts since new posts already show up there)

    – Integrates a Twitter menu item in the user’s public nav bar if they’ve configured their Twitter ID and psw. This allows the public to view the user’s last 20 tweets. It also shows the number of “followers” and “following” for the user, plus the total tweet count.

    – Integrates a Twitter Trends pages that shows the most popular search phrases at Twitter over a 7 day time span. There is also an option to display today’s trends at the bottom of a user’s list of tweets.

    – Adds a multi-instance widget to the blogs (if the blogs module is enabled in BP) to display tweets in the sidebar. Because this is a multi-instance widget it can be used for blogs that have more than one author or for users who have more than one Twitter account – e.g. each widget instance can be configured with a unique Twitter account.

    – It’s performance friendly. After getting the user’s tweets from Twitter the data is stored for one hour before being refreshed – unless a user posts a tweet from within BP or tweets a blog post – in those cases the cache refreshes. The same holds true for the trends data – except trends data is site-wide, meaning it is only downloaded once per hour regardless of how many users have Twitter configured in their account.

    – The caching mechanism works with WP Cache (or other cache tools that integrate WP Cache – such as WP Super Cache and derivatives) and if there’s no caching enabled then it will use the database to cache data.

    So that’s it at the moment. Any wish list items before we wrap this up?

    1.) adding someone as a moderator is the same as admin pretty much

    3.) BP is not currently setup to do this, one way to accomplish this though, instead of doing <?PHP if is admin?> to create groups, do <?PHP if user is level X ?> then you can manually select users and make them authors or contributors… then they would have the power to create groups. this would also give them power to create blog posts on the main blog, so you may not want them to have that power.

    hopefully in the future, BP will have more control over giving users authority levels and what not…

    4.) bp is not setup to do this either yet. you would need to modify the core to allow that content to be displayed to non-members

    everything you want IS possible, but would require some modifications to the core of buddypress. and this is not suggested

    One of my users changed the theme on their blog, and since then their posts aren’t displaying on the recent blog posts widget. I don’t see why changing the theme should have anything to do with it, as their blog functions perfectly well.

    Has anyone experienced this before? Is there something that I need to add to the code in their theme/to the buddypress code in order to fix this?

    Thanks

    alunsina, if you allow others to post to the main blog then then their posts will show up using the standard index.php template. When you select ‘blog’ from the home theme it runs a template called index.php. By default all posts in chronological order are displayed without any filtering by author. Whatever posts are most recent get displayed first. It doesn’t care who is the author.

    This really isn’t something that bp controls. It’s just normal blog behavior. You can change what index.php displays when it is run by modifying the index.php template. Or you can not allow other users to post to the main blog.
