Hi,
I’ve got the following setup:
wpmu 2.9.2
bbp 1.0.2
bp 1.2.3
They all work, bp and bbp appear to be integrated – you can move from one to the other seemlessly, bp users appear in the bbp list – but I cannot get the forums page in bp to work.
Issues:
– if I try and create a topic there is no group in the drop down
– I tried (eventually) to disable and re-enable the group discussion field, but when saving it as enabled I got a blank screen. Going back to the page after the event it appears enabled, but still no group in the drop down when posting a topic
– I’ve tried to create new group from scratch, but if the ‘enable discussion forum’ is checked I get a blank screen; if it is not checked I can proceed
– new topics posted on bp go into thin air once posted, nothing shows in bp or bbp
– posts created in bbp seem to work fine but do not show in bp (not sure that they should if done directly?)
Research shows a possible(?) need for buddypress-enable.php but this seems to be for older versions?
Other info:
– bbp is in a sub-directory of bp
– bp and bbp use separate databases
I think I may have to start from scratch (the forums page in bp no longer displays at all) but I’d like to know where I am going wrong before I have to start again.

Please give your reviews over the concept that I am planning to implement for buddypress ,plugin of wordpress.
The purpose of this app is to make commenting function more functional and appealing by allowing users to give positive, negative or neutral comments to a post. Similarly, others are allowed to do the same with their replies. Various features will be added in the app to make it more worthy and making it useful for online discussions. Another novel sequel of this app is its ability of determining user’s characteristics based on his behavior.
User’s characteristics:
User’s characteristics (in terms of percentage) will be determined depending upon his posts and way of replying in a social networking site.
a) Confidence : The extent to which user refers discussions before responding to a post.
b) Daring : The extent to which user gives negative replies as identified.
c) Influence : The extent to which user’s posts are favored.
d) Agreeableness : The extent to which user favors other posts.
e) Interaction : The number of posts responded by a user with respect to total number of posts in his updates.
Additional features
The following features will also be added in the app.
a) Provision of various categories for using CCD app for starting discussions.
b) Automatic clearance : Removal of defied comments over a limit set by the user of a post when publishing it.
c) Showing most appraised and resisted comments of the session of any post. This would also help to show the result of any discussion.
d) Linking comments : In this scenario, user can use his previous comment or post to reply other posts (or comments). The comment along with its complete session will be displayed.
e) User will also able to keep a log of his comments or posts appraised more than a limit set by him in his account. He will be able to track down the all comments related to those present in his log.
f) Ranking of all users according to their per characteristic value and publicizing the excellencies.
More features may be added during development period of the app.
I looked for a plugin that did this as well as posts on here but didn’t find anything. I’m hoping to find a way to display links under ‘Notifications’ on the top admin bar when someone replies to an “update” you posted on either your profile or on a group. Users get email notifications (if they choose to in their settings) when someone replies but I’ve been told tons of times that it would be more effective to have this show up on the ‘Notifications’ section on top just like friend requests and messages. Is there a way to do this?

Topic: Admin user management issues
Ok, now that the latest version BP is sending out an email to new users with a link to click to complete their registration, we still need better user management in the back end. For instance, as soon as a new user registers, they enter the database and are listed in the Users section of the admin, even if they never click the emailed link to complete their registration. It would be nice to be able to filter the list to quickly find different types of users.
Here’s what I think would be helpful to see displayed on the admin Users page:
— Date of user registration
— Registration completed or not?
— User’s IP address / country of origin
— Number of Buddypress posts — topics, replies, activity stream posts, etc, as opposed to just the current “posts” field, which is just for WP blog posts.
Is there a way to filter the Users section of the admin, maybe a BP or WP plugin, to make some or all of this happen? I looked and looked but couldn’t find anything. This becomes a bigger deal in BuddyPress than standard WP, because you might have thousands of users, so we need a better way to manage them.

I’m trying to make a plugin to allow users to upload documents to their buddypress profile. I’ve manage to setup the database, and the admin settings menu. Now what I need to do is add the code that generates a tab within the user’s profile where the user can upload/delete files and others can brows through them.
I don’t really have a deep understanding of the inner workings of BuddyPress, all I’ve done so far is based on reading through other similar plug-ins and forum posts:
The current code I’ve writer when activated brakes the individual members profile to the point that wordpress returns a blank page with not a single html tag. Here is the relevant code I’ve written so far. All I want to do at the moment is make the tab appear when I click on a users profile. I’ll deal with populating it later,

I’ve added the other code based on the group documents plugin to see if it helped, but this may not be necesary or helpful. I’ve also commented out most of the bp_core_new_nav_item as i read (here http://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/functions/core/bp_core_new_nav_item/) that they are optional.

Tags: We need to have options for multiple albums by tag or my own created categories like a regular blog to organize posts both ways.
Member Tags: It worked… when you create tags then it produced as an album on another member’s my pictures which I have to click through twice to see the picture. It will be easier to click once to see the picture instead creating album if I happen to create my own album with same tag as other created then it will be displaying in my existing album. I think the multiple album need to avoid using tags.
Picture activity and comments: Its cool but not for each single upload if I want to place them under same album instead postin new activity for each picture. Everyone will lose their interests in activity section with lots of members uploading their pictures.
Upload picture: It took me a while to upload 10 photos using a single upload option
We must improve in this area to attract users to stay around instead going back to Facebook. It needs to improve when I upload multiple photos with my categories/albums instead tags because if I mistype the tag name then it create its own album instead the place where I want it to be in.http://deafnation.com/bpalbum.jpg: Check the link for the image. It doesn’t look good on bp default theme when I tried to post 9 images without tag so it created its own album without tag so anyway my theme already been fixed at 960px width and the photos screwed up around. I have an issue with Picture title in the menu/navigation of bp-album because if I create a title longer than it should and it ll not be looking good. It should be removed from that area to avoid messing it up with longer title
Whats the difference between scale and resize option? So far, the admin side looked good and so curious how it looks with facebook and flickr at my end!
We need to improve creating albums instead tags or display my tags (albums) under upload page instead trying to remember many different tags. We need to polish some features before adding new ones. Hope we ll be seeing a mobile upload feature someday. That’s all folks!

The magazine theme layout looks cool, but I feel it’s bit overwhelming for certain users. especially on lower resolutions I feels a bit crammed
I agree, it needs some testing and wiggling. I noticed the colums are not behaving how I want them to as well. I like your comp, it is in between a Microblog and Magazine layout. I might just include that unless there are other suggestions.
To avoid confusion I would probably rename Status Update in the groupblog to something like News Update or Blog Update, so that it does not get mixed up with a status/activity update in BuddyPress.
Yes, it seems posting updates is not needed and we should encourage users to post media from this point. I think Ideally the update form from buddypress would exist in a top screen dropdown (not sure how you call those web 2.0 things). So you could post updates at any time and doesn’t take away real estate.
Maybe allow the user to switch to a full markup mode or tiny editor to have more control over longer posts.
This functionality would have to be born at the P2 theme. We just use there functionality. Whatever they develop, we inherit. I already hacked the main P2 a tiny bit to include the allowed categories and ajax feedback. Since it is a theme created by Automattic I think it is a safe horse to bet on.

Yes, I was surprissed to by this when using P2 the first time. I didn’t expect img code in the post form, but it makes sense. A preview screen would be very nice. Again, this is something that would needed to be developed by the P2 theme. Unless anybody can supply some code we code integrate.

There are actually a bunch of P2 features I omissed. Like keyboard shortcuts and inline editing. I’m going through the P2 theme and comb through what is still missing, inline editing is one of them. Thanks for mentioning that.

Basicly inline editing is a core feature so no problem. The preview of posts I’m not sure. I wonder if there’s a feature request section for the P2 developer crew.clicking any category tag displays the archive for that tag on a page that has no group header.
You are absolutely right. I’m only including the group header in single, but this is something I can add in with a few lines. Just didn’t get to it yet, but was already to excited to share what the development was.

Ha, yes you are right. I want prioritize buddypress activity comments since they are more sitewide than individual blog comments. This helps prevent forking of discussions and the discussion can take place at multiple stages. We could do an easy conditional to check if activity comments are disabled and then include the regular comment form instead.
I guess for backward compatibility for old blog comments we should show those on the blog posts as well.

I must be daft, but I couldn’t find the alternate layout options screen
Currently this is controlled by the site-admin. So one layout rules them all. We quickly realized that it would be much better for the site-admin to allow group creators to choose a layout. This way you can have diverse groupblog expressions. We just did not get around coding that yet.
There is still a bunch of stuff we need to add and fix. Pitfalls also include group admins to change the theme of their blog (I just of that) as well as we need to see if we can omit the featured category from the backend for group members who are not admin or mod. An many other stuff.
So it is a bold task to include P2 support and does add some dependency, but at the end I do think it adds to the overall value. We just need to smooth out what and who the plugin is used. Your feedback help us with that.
Come WP3.0 I hope P2 changes to post-types rather than categories, but we will see.
I’ve been trying to get my admin theme panel gui working so that my users can select from a list of their categories, in order to choose which categories to exclude from the homepage loop.
I believe that I am very close, but can’t seem to get the output correct.
Here is where I am:
I have the following code inside my theme functions file admin panel

What this gives me is another panel in my wp theme admin where it actually lists the categories properly, with a checkbox next to each one.
The user is able to select the categories to exclude and they are saved.
The database has entries in the options table like:

Perfect… so i am getting a true in the database for each category to exclude, so far so good.
The problem:
I have to modify the homepage loop to exclude those categories, that part is not working.. Here is the function I am trying for that.

I’m guessing that something is either wrong with my final function, or I am not filtering the loop properly.
Would a code ninja mind taking a peek?
(I know this is not bp related, more wp, but once I learn this, I plan on using the same logic to exclude bp groups from the listings)
sorry for such a long post, I’m really trying hard to learn this stuff the right way….
In my non-ending quest to ‘mu’ buddypress so that each of my blogs can have their ‘own’ buddypress, I’ve come to a roadblock.
Basically my premise is simple.
1. I have buddypress multiblog set to true, so that each blog on my mu install can have bp enabled in their site itself.
2. I use the wpdev plugin so that members can register on a subdomain blog in mu without ever leaving the subdomain. That way they show up as a user of the blog as well as my blog id#1 default one.
3. The key is I only want bp information such as activity/members lists/groups/forums/etc. that were created by users of the blog in question to be displayed. (think ning)
So after days of reading through the wp codex, I think I found the function that will work:

It seems that is the function used by mu to display the users of a blog in the admin panel when viewing the blogs on my mu network.
Where I am stuck:
I’m guessing that the best approach is to filter all the bp functions for grabbing information via the get_users_of_blog so that only posts/members/groups/forums/etc that were generated by the users of the blog is displayed.
I’m curious if it’s possible to have a general ‘overall’ function that would filter everything in bp through the users of blog function. (what a dream that would be)
Or if I need to manually create a filter for all the bp functions independently, that would suck lol.
Does this look like a good approach to use to ‘mu’ buddypress, or is there an easier way to do this?
If I do indeed have to filter all the functions independently, I’m guessing that there are only a few that I actually need to deal with in order to filter the ouput. Is there a list of those functions that would need to be filtered, or am I on my own to read through all the bp code and figure out which to filter and which not to…
Running on wp single 2.9.2 and bp 1.2.2.1, I have set the discussion settings to “Comment author must have a previously approved comment” on the discussion settings of WP so that I must approve the comments from the blog first before they are made public.
If a registered member posts a comment, the comment doesn’t display on the blog because it has to be approved first but it adds the comment to the activity stream so if users click on the comment from the activity stream, they are taken to the blog post where the comment isn’t visible because it hasn’t been approved yet.
Is this a bug? Is there anyway to prevent this?
