I have searched the forum for an answer to my question but could not find anything relevant. I have hit a limit on the number of pull down options I can offer when setting up a Profile Field Drop Down Select Box for my registration. Any suggestions on how to increase the limit? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi @solomonsun,

what baffles me is that it was working perfectly before.

This baffles me too, as you don’t say what happened “before”. Before what ? Who could we know that ?!!!

Do you have a registration page and does that page have a correct slug ? For ex. /registration/ and not /registration-2/
Have you setup pretty permalinks and resaved them again after the myterious “before action” ?
Are you logged in when you try to access the registration page ? This is not possible – you must be logged out to access it.

Hello buddy gurus in the house.

just recently, my buddypress registration page when loaded on the browser says:

    The page isn’t redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies.

i have done everthing within my abilities yet no results. I uninstalled buddypress and reinstalled it, the same problem.

    What do i do?

I’ve seen a dozen support questions on this topic and the answer has always been “another plugin must be redeclaring wp_mail(), so on my test site I disabled every plugin except bbpress and buddypress (and akismet) and still emails are sent in plain text.

On my live site, the only way I can get the html emails sent is when I have the Buddypress Group Email Subscriptions plugin activated, and then, no matter what other email-related plugins I have active all buddypress emails are sent in html format.

But, the group subscription plugin has it’s own problem: slows down page-reload when replying if too many members are subscribed to a Topic (can take up to 30 seconds for the reply to process and page to reload on our site), and we haven’t found other solutions to that. So…. we want to disable that subscription plugin, but when we do we lose the html formatted emails.

Can someone please provide some kind of solution for this plain-text vs. html issue. Like I said, even with no other plugins active we’re still not getting html emails.

    Thanks for the help.

Our info from our test site (when still getting plain text emails):

    Wordpress 4.6
    Buddypress latest version
    http://www.ankspon.co.uk/register

    1. I would like to hide this text that appears on the profile details section of my registration page. “This field can be seen by: Everyone” – It makes the registration form messy. How do I hide it?

    2. Where can I edit the text that appears at the top of this page, supplied by the buddy press plugin? “Registering for this site is easy. Just fill in the fields below, and we’ll get a new account set up for you in no time.” – I can’t see it in the plugin or page.

    Thanks

If you create an xProfile field called “Telephone” and add it to the base group, it’ll appear in the BuddyPress registration form.

    Hope that helps?

    Hi @froshdimeji,

the registration process is part of WordPress. Check on the codex or on the wp forum, but i doubt that a phone number can be used instead of an email. Perhaps it can be added to the mandatory username, password and email fields. But sorry, i have never heard about such.

Note that BP allows you to add fields to the register page, but these fields will never be part of the registration itself. So even if you add an xprofile phone type field, it won’t be considered (as first) as mandatory for registration.

I’ve been developing a new theme called Centro which supports the core functionality of WordPress & BuddyPress.

It’s currently still in development but has been released and is available on GitHub.

You can view a demo on buddycore or here also and a download is available via GitHub.

Issues will be answered and resolved via GitHub.

    Enjoy! Happy New Year!

When we are on BP Register page, on the left column, a new user fills out username, email and password.

On the right column, the user has to fill out a “second username” which is seen by everyone. On Paid Membership Pro plugin, this second username becomes the user’s real name when filling out payment details.

After this user completes the registration, when he goes to Profile / Edit, in the Base name group, the very first field is username and from here the user can change his username to “ANY NAME THEY LIKE.” And this “ANY NAME THEY LIKE” then sticks with him whenever he makes a comment or publishes a post.

Now the problem is this “ANY NAME THEY LIKE” can even be an username already taken, in other words, some other member’s username. Which means he can pretty much do anything he wants under the disguise of other members. I know when we go to his profile his real username is on the top of page where his picture is located, but not everybody would notice that and on a community site, every time his posts or comments displayed on site, they would all show an author name of that “ANY NAME HE LIKES.”

That would be a real disaster especially when using Paid Memebrship Pro on a community site, a member MUST change this “second username” becasue this name ends up being their real name on their credit card / whatever payment. And if they don’t change it, their real name would be all over the site and it’s a serious privacy and security issue.

But the same issue exists even on a standard BP Register process. Any solution to that? Than you.

    Hello BP Team,

I’m the Founder of MyKenz. We created a website based on your plugin to connect the schools and clubs of the world and teach soft skills to the youth.
This project is very ambitious but thankfully, we have the support and help of very important international partners. The aim is to help kids and teens around the world to learn what they love but cannot find in school.

One day before launching the website to the public, we had a issue/bug on the “Post Update” feature. It works for Facebook registered users and also for manually created users (via WordPress admin dashboard), but it doesn’t work for new users who created their account through “Registration” process.
By ‘not working’ I mean that when a user tries to post an update on the Activity Feed, he sees a message : “There was a problem posting your update. Please try again”.

Our freelance Dev contacted you to help him but your advices were not enough to solve our issue.
The website is now blocked for 2 weeks and we really are in a big mess.

We really need your help to debug this urgently and apparently we cannot do it without you.

Can you please get inside the site and try to find a solution ? We contacted the devs of the template (Woffice from Alkaweb) and they couldn’t do it… They advised us to get in touch with you.

I beg you to help us as soon as possible.

Best regards and wishes for 2017

Make sure your registration slug is not “registration” or “signup” or any other guessable word. Change the slug frequently.

I help run a close-knit community site running BuddyPress. Due to the nature of the community, our users are very sensitive to perceived censorship and react strongly when their messages are blocked. I am running into two issues because of this.

    1. BuddyPress appears to have a built-it activity feed spam filter (Akismet?). I can’t figure out any way to disable this, which means I have to manually approve messages that have been automatically marked as spam. We’ve had very few issues with spammers on our activity feed and I want to disable this spam filter entirely. It’s doing more harm than good.

    2. We are trying to block spammers from registering on the site. We use WangGuard and Google reCAPTCHA to accomplish this but they are still getting in somehow. They typically don’t cause any harm outside of creating spammy groups but they are a nuisance. Any suggestions on how to better lock down our registration page?

So we’re using the “BuddyPress Group Email Subscription” plugin, and are experiencing a bottleneck when members submit a reply to a topic within a BP group. It can take 15-30 seconds for the reply to finish, from the moment of clicking “reply” to page reload.

Looks like this is because the reply doesn’t finish posting until all notification emails are composed and sent. There’s a plugin to solve this for bbpress (AsynCRONous bbPress Subscriptions), but nothing I can find to solve the problem when it’s the BP email sending routine that’s being used.

Does anyone have a solution to eliminate the slow reply issue here? We want to continue using the subscriptions plugin for several other reasons, so eliminating it isn’t the solution we’re looking for.

    Thanks for the help.

Hi! I’m looking for the way I could export each user registration to a Google spreadsheet. I mean, I want that, when a new user register in the web, a new line be added to a Google spreadsheet automaticly.
    Thanks!

    Hi,

I’ve created an xprofile select field and a custom registration page. Is there a way to get all of that field’s options and use it in my custom registration page? I don’t want to do the default BP regsitration.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

BP pages are not ordinary WP pages. BP use the page system to assign a permanent slug, while content stays dynamic. Usual WP pages are static.

BP pages must be unique. This means also without assigned template, model and of course, should be a slug to a page, and not a sub-page. These page are not intended to be published and exist only for internal use. You don’t need to build a menu for register and activation. Normally, these items come up, depending the context (theme, plugins, widgets) and/or the user status.

Related to “activation” and “register” and most of BP components, you need to declare a “page” for each, despite the fact that BP will only use them to insert a template. Registration will receive xprofile fields which are added to the existing WP registration form.
And another template for the Activation stuff, depending the context: activation key, success message and so on.

I set up a page—Alfred Station—under which the five BP pages I was asked to establish were set. Thing is, the “Registration” and “Activation” pages don’t show up under “Alfred Station” either in the primary menu, or in the sidebar widget. What’s going on here?
