MemberNo problems here. PollDaddy works fine with BuddyPress just as it does with regular WordPress blogs based on my own experience.
Install it through the plugin manager, activate and add short-code to widget/post.

MemberI’m currently looking for something to handle polls myself. For PollDaddy I simply installed it as a regular plugin, pasted the short-code into a sidebar widget and it works as expected. What it does isn’t changed by BuddPress in any way from what I can tell.
As for Intense Debate, it wouldn’t let me register with my WordPress account so not sure

ParticipantYou didn’t need to do all that work if all you really wanted was the admin bar on all sites across the network. the user blogs do no need a buddypress theme. the admin bar should show across all sites anyway.

Participant@ronia you should put bp-custom.php file into the wp-content/plugins folder. Don’t put it into plugins/buddypress. Becasue bp-custom is a custom file which runs before your BP plugin. So that’s how it works.
@bennadler I didn’t use your code but I re-uploaded all files into the root directory and it worked.

MemberHi hnla,
I am using WP3.0 (a fresh install). I will follow the guide to get multisites via the link you left… really I just want everyone to have a blog if that’s possible and get all the recent entries to show on the home page.
As for the forums… yes I have enabled them in the backend, see screenshot here >> http://i29.tinypic.com/vzebsx.png
I’m wondering if you might have time to register and test this? It’s odd.. the post just disappears into the ether. The site is at http://www.natfriends.comThe profile on the default theme is fine! It’s the other theme I had that made things completely nonsensical (it’s not a BP theme, just a regular theme with a plugin to give BP function… but it’s not good!). It just was terrible. Couldn’t make any sense of anything in user profiles.
I’ve switched to the default theme. It’s not as ‘pretty’ as my other theme that I had, but it sure makes a lot more sense. I am not yet at the stage of themeing.. this is my first run at using BuddyPress… so I’m learning all of it on the fly (like most people who come here I guess).
If I could just get the forum posts to work, I’d be set….
Thanks so much for the help!

ParticipantIf you’re using /installed WP 3.0 that now combines single site and mutli site (blogs) in the one package however you do have to perform some manual file adjustments to enable multisite functionality in the backend from where you then follow the instructions to complete installation.
You can follow this guide to setting up multi sites:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_NetworkAs for BP forums have you enabled them in the backend? if you look in the dashboard at the BP section menu links you will see a link to ‘Forums Setup’.
Profiles is perhaps more a question of personal taste? I personally wouldn’t say that the profile of the default theme is particularly unintuitive, but that isn’t to say there isn’t room for improvement; obviously one can re-configure it somewhat if one uses a child theme and copies the files over to work on; also thre are a few newish plugins to add things like ‘User Stats’ and or ‘Follwers/Follwing’

MemberHi Ray!
Thanks for your answer. I am thinking many of my troubles are caused by the theme i was using. I have switched to BP default for now.
I am honestly not comfortable working with any sort of script as I am not a developer at all. I was wondering, once I have installed bbPress (which I did), can I uninstall it. I’m not sure it’s even working.
I can’t even post a forum topic whatsoever. I will go to post a topic and enter the info and the entire posting screen disappears and nothing posts. Is this a bug in BP do you think? It’s baffling me.
Thank you for clarifying the auto group join. That’s really handy.
So I guess my main questions is why aren’t posts working? I switched the theme to see if that was the culprit, but it does not seem so. Are there any settings I should check? So far I’m the only member and I am Admin.
Thanks so much!

KeymasterThere appears to be a missing edit_post_link() call in the post template (/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/single.php).
Thanks for the heads up! Creating a bug report for this.

KeymasterI really just want a forum with categories. It seems that in the native BP settings you have to create a Group first, which then gets its own forum? Is this correct?
Yes, you have to create a group first. Think of Facebook’s fan page / group discussions page. That’s what it is modeled after (I believe!).
If you want a forum with categories, I would suggest installing a WordPress forum plugin like Simple:Press or Mingle Forum.
If you’re comfortable working with another forum script, you can try installing the standalone version of bbPress and integrating WordPress and bbPress together. I list this as another option.

Or, how do I get something similar to what BuddyPress.org has? I notice that at the bottom of the forum topic listing, it says: “You will auto join this group when you start a new topic.” How did u get that functionality?
The auto-joining is default with BuddyPress. When you’re logged in and you are on a forum post that you are not a group member of, that message will be displayed. Visit the test install of BP – http://testbp.org – for an example.

KeymasterBP-Default does work with WP 3.0; what exactly are you referring to, custom menu support? The theme will not see any significant changes until BuddyPress 1.3, which won’t be out for a while yet. The theme lives in /plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/.

ParticipantHelp?!?!?! I am having the same problem except once a new user the hits “Submit Query” (which why does it say that anyway rather than register?) it just comes back to the same page with no error message. I am running WPMU 3.0BP 1.2.5.2. Everything was working fine. I’m not sure if it was the upgrade or a plug-in I installed, or some stupid error I made. I note that the last person who registered was 5 days ago. I am very new at the program and do not know yet how to code (but trying to learn!) I’ve dug all over, but can’t seem to figure it out. I am presenting the site at a conference for a school project, and now it suddenly stopped working! I am a broke grad student, but if someone can help me out, I can throw a few bucks their way if they can help me get it fixed before Saturday! The site is http://www.impacollective.org . I can be reached to chat or email at digitaldance007 @yahoo.com . PLEASE HELP!!!!

The nice thing about the plugin is that is also lets you ask users if they want to join your MailChimp email newsletter list when they sign up.
I am so looking forward to not having to deal with hundreds of spam users now!
