Each time I try to install Site Wide Forums, I get a message stating that it is already installed. But yet I don’t see it. Any suggestions? This is my first time working with BuddyPress and I have tried to follow through on all the set up instructions carefully.
I have WP 3.3 and BuddyPress 1.5. I had installed BBpress but deactivated it to install the Site Wide Forums with BuddyPress.
Wow, I am ever so close now I can taste it. The user information is on the top, but the body of the plugin is still under the left nav. Here is a look at what I have now. http://www.stunodracing.com/members/stunod/activity/

I got in through a backdoor I guess. I used FTP to search the folders. I then went to wp-adminnetwork and then logged in, was able to remove buddypress. Was version 1.5.
Is there a way I can confirm compatibility of Buddypress with my theme before I re-attempt this? I’m not married to the theme, but i do need to find something better before I switch.
Using the last versión of buddypress, when a user try to sign up to my site http://www.wikienlaces.com , the registration is successful and the user receive the message: check your email to activate the account. The user is created in the database but they don’t receive the comfirmation email and obviously they can not activate the account.
I tried registering many users with different emails, but the same problem.
I have a subdomain for testing purposes in the same hosting with the same configuration ( theme, plugins ) and there is NO problem. The users receive the confirmation email. That’s why I think that is not a hosting problem neither the other side block the emails.
I desactivated all the plugins and the problem is the same.
A user told me that he solved the problem reinstalling a fresh buddypress copy. But what happen if the problem arise again. We can not reinstalling buddypress again and again.
Please, any idea ?.
Sometimes, enabling the plugin email from, solve the problem, but I don’t like this option.
@Hysteriux Great comment…I believe you’ve expressed the feelings of many.
I’m also new to BP, and i also experienced it as a chaotic useless mess. But now, i get the logic. BP is not a ready to use tool. It depends on what you need for your site. It has some possibilities that “may” be handy for your site. If you install all of it’s components without really thinking before…it will overwhelm you. Install it, try things out, one at the time. Think how it can improve your site ‘or not’. Maybe you’re better of with a standard forum.
Thanks a lot, but somehow I’m not getting that error any more. I haven’t really done anything.. I don’t remember for sure but it might have been caused by the cache plugin, I can’t recall if it was activated when I received that error.

I’m not sure this is a bp-moderation problem, from the traces I see bpmod is calling bp_forums_get_topic_posts that load bbpress that tries to alter the db causing the error (the altered tables are not bpmod tables either), bpmod could just be the first to call something forum related and makes bp load bb.
@unwiredtech you could try disabling bpmod and see if the forums work correctly without errors, but I feel its more likely that something is wrong with bb db upgrading, maybe some corruption or wrong db version stored in the options.
Anyway if you narrow down the problem to bp-moderation please write to the plugin forum https://buddypress.org/community/groups/bp-moderation/forum/ or mention me, I’m not usually around here but I follow the plugin activities via rss.
@ClubUgly change to bp-default theme. As Site/Super admin, on the front end you’ll already see the “Delete” button on the right of “Comment” and “Favorite” buttons right after each post in Activity Stream for current BP version.
Not clear whether you couldn’t access wp-admin right after you installed BuddyPress or not. If so, if you can’t access wp-admin, deactivate BuddyPress via FTP/cpanel/etc. and rename the buddypress folder in wp-content/plugins/ to something like buddypress-xx
As for GoDaddy hosting, I have read many heartaches of people trying to install BuddyPress and/or go Multisite there with shared hosting or better.

In short, I can no longer get into the adminsitration of my site using /wp-admin. It gives me login screen, I login, and it goes back to the main page of my site as if I never logged in. Ruh Roh..

Before installing BuddyPress, make sure that your pretty permalinks are working in your WordPress installation and that you can access your .htaccess file. Otherwise, please resolve these issues at WP forums first – https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting

The mere fact that my post came across as so inexperienced to you is by itself a quite astonishing example of how confusing BP can be. I’ve been working with open-source software since i was 13 years old, since before i knew what it meant. phpBB, SMF, Joomla, Drupal etc are all open-source too. The android OS is. They make sense because their developers created them to fill an actual role. They have an actual use by default and as it happens also are easily expandable. Are you saying that these products make less sense than their closed-source counterparts? Saying that BP isn’t supposed to make sense until its users change it into their own isn’t quite the kind of argument i was expecting from an internet entrepreneur. BP would make just as little sense to me if it was closed.
My main point was not at all to imply that BP is missing something, albeit the topic starter Neonocon seemingly was aiming at the lack of a manual for it. I’m just kindly asking for examples of constructive, every-day use of it. What the devs actually intended BP’s role to be and function to fill. That’s not an unfair question, is it? Again, i don’t mean to insult. I’m asking because i’m genuinely curious about a piece of software that, although its host-program (WP) makes fine sense albeit its open-source status, is as mysterious as it is alluring.
I try to use the activity stream for the users to post the location, just like posting an update . The location is then saved in the database. Now here comes the problem. I am not sure where should I put the latitude and longitude information, in the “wp_bp_activity_meta” table or “wp_post_meta” table?
When reading the codes in Buddypress Skeleton Components, the author suggests adding custom data as post meta. But what’s the difference between ‘activity_meta” table and “post_meta”? I don’t know if it will be a problem when the data gets so big. Also I am not sure which way is better for data retrieving and handling outside the activity streams. I would really appreciate if someone can enlighten me to the pros and cons of each.

I’d try uninstalling / deleting all files for Achievements / re-installing. I had this issue first, and this fixed it. Now I have other issues with the plug-in that hopefully the next update will fix -fingers crossed-
It looks like this error is coming from BP Moderation. You may want to ask the author of that plugin @francescolaffi about it.
With the power of WordPress, It can (and has) been done.
Two ways that i can think of.
1. Use wordpress’ built in post types and create a front end post form (search the wp plugin repo) or having a look at p2theme.com’s code and using one of the hundreds of post voting plugins (search the wp plugin repo) for the voting feature (for the pending part, have a look at http://wpvote.com/ to see how they achieved it. while, it’s for articles rather than pictures it is a similar concept.)
or.
2. Creating a custom buddypress component (see the skeleton component) and codex.buddypress.org’s pages on custom components and plugins developement.
