InactiveI am not sure about this below tricks helps you or not but just tried it and see. I have same problem in my site 1 years ago and I fixed it after so many days r&d.
I am using Flatsome theme and it has the option of lazy loading and when I turn on lazy loading the problem appear and by turning off it’s dramatically went away. So, it’s works for me. Hope it might work for you.
Find lazy loading and similar options to your theme or in your any plugin and let me know if it is worked for you or not ?

KeymasterAre you using the Legacy or Nouveau template set? If you are using Nouveau, the activity items are loaded via AJAX, so there could be a delay if your server doesn’t respond quickly to the AJAX request, but there should be a box that says “loading the activity items or similar”.
Please also test this problem with a basic theme like TwentyNineteen, since I can imagine that some themes will use lazy loading techniques or similar that could be problematic.

ParticipantAfter doing some research I found another article with the same error, it was jetpack lazy load causing the issue. When enabled it doesn’t show profile picture preview when prompted to crop but when disabled it fixes it right away. Thank you again

ModeratorDid you check your browser’s console for javascript errors ?
Are you using a caching plugin or other code that minifies javascript or uses ‘lazy loading’ ?
If so, try turning it off and see if the issue persists.April 7, 2019 at 5:59 pm #304485In reply to: Cropping profile image

ParticipantThanks for the tip!
I finally found the solution to the problem. Follow these steps: In admin backend, go to JetPack settings > performance and deselect “lazy loading option for images”. And now the cropping works – Please enjoy.Anders

Participant@samyliu thank you so much for posting this. I was not able to crop the uploaded Avatar file for my buddy press groups. I would upload a jpg file and it was be the size of a pin head.
I went in to Jetpack plugin settings and turned off load lazy images and it fixed it for me to be able to upload and crop the image.

ParticipantMany questions about issue with updating group Avatar. I discover something and hope this will stop you from starching your head.
I found that when Jetpack Lazy image is activate, group avatar/photo cannot be shown and cannot crop image at all. Turned off Jetpack Lazy image option, crop image works alright, but upload always error.
I finally de-activate JetPack to be able to update my group Avatar.

ParticipantLazy load will really speeds up a site, so it’s important to us. LiteSpeed Cache has image lazy loading which is compatible with the BuddyPress avatar uploading feature:

Thought that might help anyone who runs into this issue!

ModeratorHi elexem,
Looks like you are getting quite a few Javascript errors:
JQMIGRATE: jQuery.fn.load() is deprecated – Orange Login plugin
JQMIGRATE: AJAX events should be attached to document: ajaxComplete – A3 lazyload assets plugin
JQMIGRATE: jQuery.attrFn is deprecated – Jannah theme
JQMIGRATE: Global events are undocumented and deprecated – Cookie Notice plugin
JQMIGRATE: jQuery.fn.size() is deprecated; use the .length property – Jannah theme.Depricated means usually that those functions will no longer work, so they need to be seen to. The AJAX event warning may of may not be an issue, but it should be looked at.
However I doubt any of these have a bearing on the issue at hand, there’s no sign of the shortcode output. Do any other shortcodes work? Mind, the form would not display to a not logged in user.

Moderatorif I do it on the User Screen through the Admin page it works fine…but my Users won’t have that option.
That tells you there is something happening on the front end.
I’ll bet it will work if you deactivate any ‘lazy’ loader plugin or code. ( jetpack ? )
And / or any ‘minify’ plugin or code that is affecting javascript.I am using a theme now that is tested with BuddyPress
Sez who? The theme creators? Always check by momentarily switching to a WP theme like 2016.

InactiveHi ! Prashant,
Heads off you man for forwarding me or suggesting me below article for my above mentioned problem.
Article : Link
By reading of above articles one of answer “Hi It is all resolved now. Turns out the Jetpack lazy loading option was on and causing a mad headache.”
In above answer has the word “lazy loading” strike in my mind that in my Flatsome theme’s advanced options has lazy loading sub menu.
I already checked “LAZY LOAD IMAGES Enable lazy loading for images. Use with caution! Disable if you have plugin comp ability problems.” and for that my above problem came.
So, I just unchecked it and my problem solved.
Thanks ! for your time.

ParticipantI probably don’t have a real solution for you, but for the record, images uploading on Buddypress will not have a same CSS everytime. Just think about it, because avatars and cover images are new images uploading into our database, and lazy load will exclude core images (which have specific classes throughout). If you’re planning to add the uploading image area into lazy load, it will probably not work also since you’re using the class of the surrounding/background/border/area not the actual image that is uploaded.
Second of all, I have the same issue as yours. And my solution is to officially turn off lazy load. Because lazy load can actually affect our SEO rather than helping it grow. And the resolve is too hard to figure out since it’s not the problem of both theme and Buddypress, neither will have a solution (And lazy load plugins are one time development, noone will stick around to adjust this upload that for us).

ParticipantI’m sorry I already found the solution:
I tried to examine the code via f12 – it was lazy load for some reason. I disabled it and it’s working fine now.
I’m sorry for writing this issue in here! I wish you a great day! The topic can be closed.August 20, 2016 at 9:17 pm #257826lewis1202
