abcde666ParticipantHi Modemlooper,
your mentioned error is always showing up when I am working on my translations as well.
Not sure what this error means and where it is coming form, but you can just ignore this error-message and it still works fine. The original .pot-file includes all the words and it should take you only a few minutes to translate the word Groups into Team….
June 22, 2010 at 11:13 pm #82325In reply to: Localization problem.
r-a-yKeymasterJust updated the instructions.
The updated instructions are much easier as you don’t need to download translation files for WordPress.

Re: your other question – You’ll need to download your WordPress language file and add them to /wp-includes/languages/

Brandon AllenParticipantWhat are you using to create your custom translation file? The .mo file should contain something.
June 18, 2010 at 10:15 pm #81908t.sjogrenParticipantI´m working on a translation to Swedish for BuddyPress right now, and use the language-file for this.

June 14, 2010 at 8:10 am #81453In reply to: I cannot find .htaccess file to moderate it
Angelos KonstantinidisParticipantThanx intimez and Paul. I select settings->permalinks and then a common setting like the second (date and name) or third (month and name) but when I click “Save Settings” there is a message (in greek this is the translation) on the bottom of the page that “if the .htaccess file was writable then save will be automatically be completed, but it seems that it is not. Here are the rules mod_rewrite that you must enter into the .htaccess file.
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]“
So, I cannot save settings and I cannot find .htaccess file. I have manually (I uploaded the folder with filezilla) installed buddypress, because there was a problem with automatic installation. Maybe it is the “same” problem again…
I also tried to create the “.htaccess” file as Paul suggests but since I have windows xp, it is impossible to create a file without a filename.
I tried to make the “/” folder writeable also (I give you the procedure I followed). I logged in with filezilla and I right clicked on “/” folder. Then I clicked on file properties and I ticked “write” on owner, group and public and I also selected to apply this setting to subfolders.
Unfortunately, the problem remainsMay 19, 2010 at 5:35 pm #78876In reply to: Problems with activation plugin.
wahuuMemberThat is what i’ve done:
1) downloaded plugin, and copy it to serwer to “wp-content/plugins”
2) activate plugin

http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/6696/problem2f.jpgtranslation “You do not have sufficient permissions to enter this site.”
I have no access to dashboard.
Everytime i want to go to wp-admin it’s the same problem.I’ve tired to install buddypress on 2 different hostings.

DwenausParticipant@Johnjamesjacoby – I realize you’re busy guy – but any update on this. I’m looking for a simple plugin that will simply let a user change the BP interface language. google translation would be great but not essential.

Jamie MarslandParticipantHi ,
I really like the site, very clean and well explained. I have a quick question. How did you change the Group Forums Directory menu name to Tutoring? Is there an easy way/place to do this? I have tried making a translation file but that didn’t work.
Thanks for any advise
jamesMay 6, 2010 at 9:42 am #76908In reply to: Groups Button Text
stwcParticipantThe app is using the translation strings (with default verbiage) — that’s why you see stuff like __( ‘Leave Group’, ‘buddypress’ ) for example, in the code.
You need to make a custom language file as well as changing slugs in wp-config.php (optionally). Search this forum for more info on how to create a language file and switch it on with bp-custom.php for your install. I recommend getting poedit from Sourceforge to make editing easier.

Paul Wong-GibbsKeymasterFor that to work as intended, you also need to set WP_LANG in your wp-config.php and load a nBb_NO translation for WordPress.

Paul Wong-GibbsKeymasterErich73, you didn’t really need to cross-post this https://buddypress.org/community/groups/requests-feedback/forum/topic/german-language-translation/
April 28, 2010 at 7:21 am #75645In reply to: (solved) BuddyPress not working as it should.
coffeeholicParticipantThis is working now.
– Deaktivated and deleted BP.
– Reinstalled and activated BP.
– Hardcoded the language file in bp_core.php (replaced: buddypress-$locale with nb_NO.MO)Not sure why BP wouldnt fetch the translation file.

April 28, 2010 at 6:22 am #75642In reply to: german-language translation ?
Paul Wong-GibbsKeymasterA tag is for a specific release of BP: e.g. 1.2.1, 1.2.2, 1.2.3.
A branch is for a specific range of releases: e.g. 1.2.*Any bug fixes will be applied into the 1.2 branch so it’s a good, mostly safe place, to stay if you want to run a version newer than 1.2.3 that isn’t going to add new functionality or mess up your site.

which files to use ?April 27, 2010 at 5:45 pm #75503In reply to: (solved) BuddyPress not working as it should.
coffeeholicParticipantHi again Paul.
Yes, they are visable to search engines – (it would have been great if it was that easy).
I have a feeling that there is somethng wrong with the database.I had some truble getting a language installation running, so i had to delete
everything BP related to get rid of the “white screen of death”, including every
bp_ line in the database. After the reinstallaltion of Bp, i see that something is
wrong (only with bp, everything else is working fine)My very helpful host (wpwebhost), was able to atleast get bp and my language
installed. BUT, it is not translating BP, and i cant see any activity
– mammabloggen.no is the site if anyone want to have a quick look at it to see
what im talking about.Everything was working fine (except translation) before deleted the lines in the
database. (it looks like they are all there, but i have a feeling that something is missing)..Thank you for helping me out
Ps. I will gladly pay someone to get this up and running for me, just PM me.
April 16, 2010 at 2:14 pm #73797In reply to: BuddyPress-Links 0.4.x Releases and Support
MrMazParticipantI just tagged 0.4 final.
Thank you very much to everyone who helped with the testing, translations, and bug reports.
Not much has changed since the beta.
* Changing the component slug is now officially supported
* Do not show my group links or create link form unless user is a group member
As soon as the repo updates you can upgrade from your dashboard. If you have a ton of links, make sure you let the page load all the way after upgrading since every link needs to be updated to populate a new field.
Only two languages are up to date for 0.4. Those would be FR and NL. If you are interested in updating or adding a translation, you can download the .pot file here…
Enjoy the 0.4 branch!
April 15, 2010 at 7:11 pm #73698In reply to: bp-events plugin ported to 1.2.x ?
3sixtyParticipant1: Before activating the plugin, comment out in the bp-events.php (plugin directory):
* 21-24 row (require..)
2: Activate the plugin
3: You receive the error message You receive the error message
4: Uncomment the lines of paragraph 1, and refresh the page
OK, something is ‘lost in translation’ for me… I commented out rows 21-24, tried to activate the plugin and got this message:
Fatal error: Class 'BP_Events_Event' not found in /home/website22/public_html/bp/wp-content/plugins/bp-events/bp-events.php on line 215
Bowe, what did you do at this point?
UPDATE: OK, they mean uncomment row 21 so BP can see the classes file. I then got a “function not found” error, so I uncommented the rest of the includes, and it seems to work now.
Wow! Very cool.
April 14, 2010 at 11:27 am #73476In reply to: How to change URLs?
simonleMemberThank you both for pointing me in the right direction. But I still got some problems.
I tried the language translation files but it only translates a few parts of the actual content inside BuddyPress and not any of the URLs.
So I tried to follow the steps in the Docs. But I seem to be missing a bp-custom.php file. So I added the definable slugs to my wp-config.php file instead. But no change has been made to my URLs.
What could be wrong?
April 14, 2010 at 11:16 am #73475Boone GorgesKeymaster@roydeanjr – Can you be more specific about the error that you get? This plugin doesn’t really affect group creation at all, since groups are essentially created by the end of step 2 (the screen where you check “Create Group Blog”) and the invitations don’t come until the end of the process. Do you have the same problem with group blogs even with Invite Anyone turned off? Exactly what does the error say?
@hnla – The tab nav string is in in the file invite-anyone/by-email.php, function invite_anyone_setup_nav(), around line 199 where it says ‘name’ => __( ‘Send Invites’, ‘buddypress’ ). I’m noticing that I’m inheriting the BP string translation, since the phrase occurs in BuddyPress core. If it would help, I can change that to the bp-invite-anyone domain, so that you could use a language file to apply the change just in that place.
As for hidden groups: I am using bp_has_groups with the user_id of the logged in user to populate that group list. Thus the Invite New Members screen should only show the groups that the user is a member of. It’s possible that you’re seeing all groups because you’re testing with an admin account. Have you verified your hidden group problem with a non-admin account?
